West Wilkes at East Surry
The Journey is close to done for the Blackhawks.. Been a rough year for them. Hope East is nice here.. No reason to drop 70 on these kids. Might be a close game between these two in a couple of years though if West’s JV develops.
Elkin at MA
Elkin’s season has taken a dire turn once their QB broke his collarbone. Their JV team had to be disbanded due to low depth and that’s never good for a program. Things won’t get any better as it’s their turn to face the black hole.
Starmount at Alleghany
It’s looking like the Rams now have the inside track for 2nd place in the NW after their workman like win last week over South. However they can’t afford to rest on their laurels the next two weeks as they play two teams who would love to spoil their parade. Up first is Alleghany who is desperate for any kind of momentum right now. A great way to find some is to knock the Rams off but easier said than done. Both of these teams have hard times being conclusive but the Rams have had a little better luck so they get the nod here.
Forbush at North Wilkes
The Falcons are reeling and have been exposed in consecutive weeks by the Surry County teams. The bullies have went from doing the bullying to be being the victims.. Life finds a way sometimes. They got to find a way to rebound this week as they face a decent offense in North Wilkes or it could be a long night in Hays. NW has been a kryptonite in the past decade for the Bush as their series had some back and forth matchups. I just don’t see NW’s defense rising to the occasion here like they need to do. Forbush will do enough to pull out here with a W. If they do lose it will be a nuke situation in East Bend.
North Stokes at South Stokes
County championship is on the line in Walnut Cove for the two small Stokes schools. North won in the spring thanks to a long break due to storms and South being solidly beat up. Neither will be a factor tonight so I expect it to be much more closer. It’ll come down to lineplay and coaching and South has the edge on both sides. North’s 2 main players will be enough to keep it close but they won’t have an answer for Carrick and his speed. South has more consistency right now and Dave is the better head coach of the two. He always rises to the occasion in these types of games.
West Stokes at North Forsyth
West was thudded by Reidsville last week quite badly, and NF came to Toast to play NS and got thudded back down to Winston for their efforts. Both of these teams are reeling and badly need a win here for a better playoff spot. West is in as of now while North isn’t which doesn’t make much sense but oh well. It’s NF’s senior night and West will be the visitor in a 180 from the spring; last time these two played in Winston West barely made it out on top. Game will come down to lineplay.. If West can handle NF’s line then it will be a close one but if NF can get their offense going early it will be a rough night for the Wildcats. NF needs Williams’s son back as his injury last week slowed their defense down. With him starting West will have a rougher go. Could go either way but I find NF to be a little bit better due to their defense; but they got to put it together. Johnson could have another surprise win tonight if not.
South Caldwell at Ashe County
Huskies are improving week to week in this new conference.. JV’s are doing well and the varsity is playing really hard. If Covid hadn’t hit then things coulda been more fun. But for what they have endured they haven’t quit and I’m proud of them for that. South is pretty solid this year and should get the W here but I expect another solid night on offense for the Huskies.
MI Charter at Carver
MIC heads to Winston to play Carver on their senior night. MIC will be too athletic for the Jackets but I still see the Jackets having a lot to play for and I see them having a good night on offense. Their game next week will mean more for purposes to getting to .500.
Walkertown at Morehead
WS Prep at Bishop
I give Prep the edge here due to their speed but Bishop is a little more fundamentally solid. Could go either way.
