Weekly Review of Rankings for 11/14/22

PSU's 1st dual has taken place, so it's time to resume the weekly review of rankings. It appears that Flo has returned to making their rankings available to non-subscribers, so once again they'll be included. The Open Mat seems to have stopped producing new content, so for now they have been removed from the Weekly Review.

A reminder that: 1) different services treat freshman (RS or True) differently at the beginning of the season, 2) different services rank a differing number of prospects per weight class, and 3) computer generated rankings usually are off a good bit at the beginning of the season. Also, WrestlingByPirate usually doesn't post rankings for a month or so after the start of the season.

Interesting that Wrestlestat has Missouri as its #1 dual team, with OSU 2nd and PSU 3rd. When you run a simulation of a Mizzou vs. PSU match, Mizzou ends up winning because they project the #7 wrestler at 197 (Rocky Elam) to beat Dean, who they have as the #1 wrestler at 197. That's the only real headscratcher in the matchup. Mizzou has a solid lineup of starters.

Also interesting that the PSU vs. OSU simulation results in a Penn State win, so head-to-head obviously isn't the sole basis for ranking teams.

WrestleStat is interesting, but as I mentioned in my OP, the computer generated rankings, which WrestleStat is, are frequently outliers in the early part of the season. And Mizzou lost a dual to ASU earlier this evening, 19-17, so I doubt they'll be the #1 dual team in WrestleStat's rankings next week (though computer rankings are not always that reactive to actual results, especially early in the season).
