Saw this earlier today in an article about our recruiting class and was surprised, did not know,
“Now for some of the folks out there who during this past week have opined that it's hard to get excited about any high school players because "they will just jump in the portal in a year" consider the facts. Beamer has not had one high school player that he signed that the staff battled to keep leave South Carolina. Those that have left were either recruited by the previous staff, were incoming portal or JUCO transfers who came and went or they left looking for a place they could go to get on the field (the normal attrition that you would see in previous years). Now, I am sure the day will come when Beamer and the Gamecocks have one they signed that will break their heart. But the portal has been around since Beamer arrived. This is his fourth recruiting cycle. There's a track record there.So while it's understandable that portal mania has sucked the oxygen out of the room as far as the traditional signing day is concerned, there's still reason to be optimistic about the future of the program given the quality of this core group and the battles that this staff won.”
