Certainly given the pandemic, I'm not as invested in college hoops this year, but boy did that game feel like last year. At least last year we had Spencer whose primary objective was not to score but to find someone else a better shot. The amount of poorly chosen, contested jump shots early in the shot clock was staggering. Audige takes the cake on this, it was literally an assumption that if the ball was passed to him, he was jacking it up, whether the shot was there or not. That approach seemed to be contagious for most of this game. No flow whatsoever, it felt more like a pick up game than two teams from elite conferences.
As bad as NU played tonight, there was no way that they should have lost that game, but still did anyway with another collapse against a full court press and clutch missed FT's in the closing seconds. We've seen this play out before.
I guess the way I'll approach it is I didn't really even expect there to be basketball this winter so whatever. The fact that there's a reset next year and nobody loses eligibility also makes this year feel like a bunch of high profile scrimmages more than anything. Practice for next year I suppose.
