Welsh-Ryan Arena to reopen in November, Schapiro says

For those of you who aren't regular readers of the Daily:

Welsh-Ryan Arena is slated to reopen for exhibition basketball games the first weekend of November, University President Morton Schapiro told The Daily on Thursday.

The arena, which has been undergoing construction since March 2017, is likely to first host men’s and women’s games Nov. 2, Schapiro said. The opening is planned to coincide with the Nov. 3 football game against Notre Dame, which is likely to draw a large NU crowd.

“That’s going to be a heck of a weekend. And that place is going to be packed,” Schapiro said. “The students are going to go crazy when they see how unbelievable, wonderful that new arena’s going to be. … I can’t wait.”

Looking at the construction cam, they are almost done with the West facade. The roofing is just about done. Seems like they are making faster progress than on Taj Fitz, although it is a much smaller building.

I would hope they have a STH open house ala the Bears after the Soldier Field redo. A viewing party for a road October football game would be a good opportunity.
