I feel bad for Wendell as he was starting to play better. However we would be naive to think we would not have injuries as the season progresses. Let's hope he heals completely, others step up, and that we get rid of our injuries in January so we are well in March.

This sucks. I guess the bright side, is it wasn’t Tre or Vernon. Nothing against Wendell at all but I think there are others that would be a bigger loss. Still hate it for Wendell, the team, and us

Well luckily I don’t think this is a season thing, maybe 2-4 weeks
Another positive is that our schedule over the next month is really weak. UL is the big game over the month but besides that it’s pretty easy.

At this point as a Duke fan, this doesn't shock me. Seems like we have an injury every year this time of the year. Feel bad for Wendell, he looked pretty good Saturday night. He's also a kid who I feel like needs every minute of practice he can get. He has loads of potential, just needs time to put it all together.

The positives to take away...
-we are so deep as a team, unless it's Tre or Vernon going down, I don't think we should skip a beat.
-our next few weeks are easy, is it really gonna be a 2-4 week injury? That would be nice.
-possibly increases Wendell's odds of being at Duke next season.

Wendell would’ve been helpful against UL, especially against Nwora. Hopefully he’s back for FSU.

What I'm seeing is 4-6 weeks and we all know how cautious Duke is so probably 6 weeks. Would be nice to get him back a few games before the acc tournament

He may benefit from a break too. Being able to sit back and observe has helped a lot of guys. We’ll see. This isn’t a good loss from a defensive standpoint. Offensively AOC has the most to gain here.

I remember seeing this in the second half and him trying to shake it off, he initially stayed in the game and then came right out and went to the trainer. Hope he heals up but our depth helps us in the meantime.

I saw the play when it happened also. Thought he just jammed it. Dammit I hate hearing this.

He’s out for an “extended” period of time. Wonder if he will have a hard cast? 6 weeks is my guess.

Damnit. Agree with @jwill133 that Moore needs this practice time and was blossoming into a star in his own right. He’s got loads of potential. That’ll be on hold for now.

This def hurts. Man I hate injuries. Worse part of sports. Luckily we have some depth, but make no mistake, this hurts.

Like others, Wendell was looking more and more comfortable with each passing game.

This is certainly a setback, but we have depth and this will afford guys who are tested to step up and enhance their roles.

fracture of the fourth metacarpal bone. Not sure what the typical recovery time is for that. Can anyone shed some light on that type of injury?

From a quick google search, this is what I found. Granted, not all cases are the same and I'm sure there's many different scenarios to how long and how it's treated.

"The time it takes your metacarpal fracture to heal varies on a case-by-case basis. But generally speaking, healing time tends to fall within the range of 6-10 weeks. If a cast is part of your treatment plan, you likely won't have to wear it for the full duration of healing."

Well, that's a great bit of the season there. Hopefully, he can come back soon enough to prepare for the end of the season and help Duke in the ACC tournament/NCAA Tournament.

I bet he broke it when he slapped the backboard too hard against BC or Brown whenever that was and he felt so embarrassed about it that he tried to cover it up. When they showed him on the bench it was obviously still stinging 5 minutes after the fact.

Am I crazy or do you guys remember what I'm talking about?

Could be why he has struggled at times.

A.O.C seems to keep getting chances to show out. Of he doesnt elevate his status on the team this time then when will he?

As far as Moore, he is a great player that was getting better, finding his place on this team. Hope he takes his time and gets back to full health. With this type of injury he should still be able to maintaine his conditioning and hopefully a mid February return for the young man.

He came in and hit a jump shot after the backboard slap, but he continued to look at it throughout the remainder of the game. He has not even attempted a jumper since then, but has scored going to the basket several times.

Thinking back on it, I pretty much guarantee that's when it happened. Slapping a hard surface could easily cause 4th metatarsal fracture according to Google.

Bummer. He was really starting to grow a little in terms of efficiency with his playing time.

Hope he heals quickly. We may need him to take over a game when others are off.

Sucks!! I wonder if we shrink down to a 9 man rotation or start to see a little JRob sprinkled in not just during garbage time. He seems to always play well when he’s in the game and is a great rim protector and pretty good 3 point shooter.

That is exactly what I thought of. The announcer made a big deal about how loud the slap was in person, and when they cut to Wendell on the sideline he was shaking his hand in pain.

Gonna be interesting to see those who complained about Wendell’s game also complain about his absence.
I was thinking the same thing this morning when I saw the news. It's a blessing we have plenty of guys that can fill in until he gets back. I personally think his effective on the ball defense will be missed for sure.

Wendell is a great pressure relief valve. He actually plays the point guard position pretty damn solidly despite being a little slow to make decisions. His length just keeps the ball bouncing our direction more than the stats show.
Agreed. He is key at the end of games when we are getting pressed to help relieve Tre.
I think were also gonna miss his athleticism on the defensive end. He's not quite there yet consistently, but he has shown in some 4 minute stretches the ability to completely shut down whoever he is guarding, a la Justise Winslow. He did it in the Miami game, you can see a stretch where the offensive guy can't go anywhere with Wendell on him.
That defense would be huge against a Jordan Nwora for example.
