I came across Game 3 of the 1976 NLCS on YouTube and thought I'd ask those Phillies fans that remember, were the Phillies better with Dave Cash & Larry Bowa or Manny Trillo & Larry Bowa? How did they compare? Thank you in advance.

Initial thoughts are better hitting team with Dave Cash and better defensive team with Trillo. Trillo IMHO wielded a wicked glove at 2nd base and had a really strong arm to turn 2 or relay to home.

I was a Bobby Murcer guy, so I went from the Yanks to the Giants to the Cubs. Trillo was on those Cubs teams. Solid defensively, but not much of a bat (not nearly as bad as Bowa though). He could get streaky. I think he was leading the league in hitting for a long while one season, but he couldn't sustain it. I'd take Cash if we needed runs. And you always need runs.

After thinking about it, Cash couldn't hit me if I ran through the batters box. I'd take Trillo.

Manny Trillo. Look up his fielding %. That is no knock on Dave Cash, either. I was a season ticket holder from 1973 to 1984, so I saw them play.

I was a Phillies fan since I was a young lad in the early/mid 60's.
Dave Cash was a hitting machine who brought the Pirates WINNING tradition with him.
Pete Rose came aboard, and gave Schmitty, Luzinski, and Bowa a "Big Red Machine" kick in the *** and won the '80 World Series!
Manny Trillo was a great 2nd baseman, and had quite a few big hits during his time with the Phillies.
Tough call between Cash and Trillo. Phils had much better pitching when Trillo was there. Loved Cash, but, going Trillo here, by a hair.

I saw both play and the sabermetrics are pretty spot on Cash gets the nod even with Trillio playing a half year more( 81 Strike)

This is their years with the Phils

Cash actually had a better defensive War and Runs Fielding than Trillo yet Trillo gets GG's with the Phils??
Yes because the winner of the GG the prior 5 years that covered Dave Cash stint with the Phillies was.............. Joe Morgan..... who is 34-35 years old when Trillo wins his with the Phillies

When Morgan wins Cash stats are even better the 3 years with the Phils ---- Criminal that he doesnt win it in 74--- in 76 even Trillo/Stennent was better than Morgan --- so maybe the gold glove is popularity contest in a lot of ways Winning teams??? or just based on Fld Pct as the main metric at the time????

Trillo GG wins nothing stands out for him against his peers 79 probably is the winner--- 82 maybe but its not clear statically
