KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 8, 2026) – The second-seeded West Virginia University women's basketball team avenged two regular-season losses enroute to defeating top-seeded and No. 10 nationally-ranked TCU, 62-53, to hoist the program's second-ever Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship trophy Sunday night inside the T-Mobile Center.
Sunday's win marked the third conference tournament title in school history and the first since winning the 2017 Big 12 Tournament. Before that, WVU hadn’t claimed a conference tournament since the 1989 Atlantic 10 Tournament. Senior guard Jordan Harrison poured in 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
Kierra Wheeler finished with 10 points and eight rebounds as Carter McCray also added eight boards to help WVU outrebound a taller TCU team 41-34. Sydney Shaw scored 17 points and knocked down three triples with six makes from the floor.
Harrison opened the scoring with a triple, which was later answered by TCU’s Olivia Miles. Harrison then found an open Shaw for a transition three before Harrison’s defensive pressure resulted in a steal and easy layup. WVU extended its lead out to as many as seven points on two paint touches from McCray and Wheeler as the Mountaineers led 12-5 at the five-minute mark. TCU scored the next seven points of the frame before Harrison cashed in on an isolation midrange jumper just before the first quarter buzzer, giving WVU a two-point lead.
Woodley scored on a cutting right-handed layup on the opening possession, before seeing a Miles and1 carve into the WVU lead. Cooke knocked down a top-of-the-key triple, but TCU answered with a corner three of their own. West Virginia led 19-18 at the media timeout.
TCU managed to take its first lead of the game out of the break, stringing together eight straight points to a 23-19 lead with two minutes to play in the half. A Shaw pullup jumper and two at the strip from Harrison leveled the score over the next minute. Shaw then knocked down her second three of the contest to give the Mountaineers a 26-23 halftime advantage.
Out of the break, WVU pushed its lead to five on two Harrison free throws before trading buckets over the next four minutes to a 30-28 lead. A Cooke fastbreak layup kickstarted 11-2 scoring spurt, helped along by more Wheeler and McCray action in the paint. The run pushed WVU to an 11-point lead late in the action. TCU managed to cut the lead back to single digits, but Harrison knocked down her second shot at the buzzer of the game to give WVU a 43-32 lead entering the fourth quarter.
WVU extended its lead out to 14 points two times over the opening four minutes. The first came on a Wheeler second chance put back at the eight-minute mark, and then again, a minute late from Shaw at the charity stripe. The Horned Frogs chipped away, scoring the next five, with WVU leading 50-41 at the final media timeout.
Wheeler stopped the bleeding, knocking down a turnaround jumper out of the break, and scoring four straight Mountaineer points around two TCU points before Harrison cashed in on two at the line to give WVU a 13-point advantage with 1:30 on the clock.
The Horned Frogs made one final push, getting as close as six points with 34 seconds to play, but clutch free throws from Harrison down the stretch secured the program's second Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship.
The 2026 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball All-Tournament team was: Jordan Harrison, MOP, Sydney Shaw (West Virginia), Jordan Speiser (K-State), Olivia Miles (TCU) and Marta Suarez.
West Virginia set a new single tournament program record in rebounds with 108, Harrison became WVU’s single tournament steals leader at the tournament with 10 and Wheeler became the program's single tournament rebound leader with 26 boards.
