I'm heading to Murray this weekend and haven't been to WKY for years. Will only be there for a couple of days but will have time to hit a couple of good BBQ places. Where should I go? Thanks

are you talking Bowling Green or true Western Kentucky? (always bothered me that Bowling Green was considered "western" KY since it's pretty much exactly west south central.

Im guessing since he mentioned Murray in the post he is actually talking about Western KY.

If close to Paducah, Harneds large BBQ sandwich, bring cash and be prepared for the car hops to be on you before you get the car in park. Best BBQ sandwich anywhere

Don't waste your time. Head on down to tville in Monroe County (only about 3 hours or so away) and get some REAL bbq. It'll be worth it to avoid that crap they call bbq in west ky.

LOL. Real WKY BBQ(not Owensboro) is nationally known. Monroe County is not.

When I watch BBQ shows on FoodNetwork, etc., they always mention Carolina, Memphis, Kansas City, or Texas styles. On occasion they may mention Alabama. And having lived in multiple areas around the US, I think Kentucky BBQ is more regional than national.

Starnes or Backwoods. Both in Paducah. Get one extra, extra, extra at Starnes and then drive over to the mall area and get one hot, chopped at backwoods heavy on the sauce. FCC.

From my understanding Carolina and Western KY BBQ's are similar vinegar based sauces.

I should say Paducah has a nationally known BBQ festival. It is on the circuit and the local guys regularly beat the big boys.

Starnes is way overrated. Samich is on bread then steamed if I remember right and is super thin. They also do not have beans... I mean really?

Never had any bbq from Murray.

Nicky's in Clinton is good and the keg in Fulton is solid.

Denis in fulton was the best IMO before demo passed away, have not had it since.

Heard good things bout a place by Ky Lake

had barbeque in Western KY at a couple different joints. Had barbeque from Monroe Co. Monroe Co wins. It's ridiculous how good that stuff is. Aside from the vinegar base, they all coat it in crack. That's the only explanation.
Tell me more please.

Honestly, your best choice is to take the backroads and find the little mom and pop stores that sell it from their "deli". When I was in college, going between Bowling Green and Murray, I would love to hit the little backwoods places. I could often smell the bbq when driving and would just pull off in the first little country store I would come to. Delicious.

I go to the Keg in Murray, they do a good job with their pulled pork and the draft beer is always good and cold.

I live in Murray and work in Paducah, I think Paducah BBQ is overrated, Bad Bob's in Murray is my favorite in the area. 4 pigs or whatever in Benton is good too.

So ended up hitting both places in Benton. Four Little Pigs was great, will go back for sure when I am back in the area. Hutchens was good not great, not impressed. Also hit up Patti's down in Grand River. Cool place and the pork chop was off the charts.

FALSE. Drove down to Tompkinsville last year to try it at the behest of a customer. While thinly sliced pork shoulder in a vinegar-based hot dip is good, it's no Old Hickory. Never will be.

I like moonlight if that counts, but since someone brought up Patti's... The 2" pork chop is outstanding. And I never order pork chops from restaurants.
