....in a day betting sports? (Horse Racing included)

As a side, what were your lucky wins and tough beats?

Got down $1,200 in one weekend betting football.

I didn’t even know the bookie personally, but my friend vouched for me and talked him into letting me make one final (large) bet that finally helped me pretty well break even.

1100 this past oaks. Thought I was a horse expert. Wrong!! Lost 700 on derby
I’m a lifelong horse player. I’ve been wagering on horses since I was 16. I’m 52 now. It’s a tough game for sure. I think I’m a bit ahead overall, but I’ve had some tough days for sure.

I pretty much just stick to Pick 4 and Pick 5’s now days. Occasionally I’ll throw together a Super or a Super high five.

Of course with these type of wagers, I will strike out more times than not, but when I connect, it wipes out the K’s and usually gets me back on the positive side.

My father won over 100,000 in 1986 on Ferdinand. I was a kid but he put 10,000 down, and it went off 17-1.

It was a dumb move, and that was a lot of money to put down at the time, and he never gambled. His grandfather just passed and his name was Ferdinand. He said he had a dream and decided to bet.

I don’t know the exact figure after taxes, but it was a lot of money and I can’t remember him ever gambling again. My father has since passed and left me in decent shape, and I’d think some of that ticket is with me now.

I don't do single game betting because I'd be terrible at it but I do daily fantasy like FanDuel. I only do the $1 entries so I don't blow too much money, won $15 one day, lost no more than $3

I won $7100 on the Tri-Super at the Napes Fort Myers Grey Hound Track. The jackpot was $50,000 but there were 6 other winning tickets that had to split it.

I won $5000 last year taking Kentucky preseason "over" on the win total. That was the easiest money I ever made.

Biggest loss was Superbowl 50 dropped $3K on the Panthers.

Most I've ever won at Keeneland was like $30 on a boxed exacta.

Most I've ever lost was $20 on 1 race. I normally do minimum bets, but my name is Ryan and there was a horse named Ryan's Daughter. It was like 70-1. I put $20 on her to win. 13 years later I think that horse is still trying to get around the last turn

Small world. This was back in the 90s when I was living in Fort Myers. I think poker just started when I was there. I spent a lot of time on handicapping greyhounds, I used to come in the door carrying notebook full of stats etc. The tellers down there nick named me "the bookman".

Unfortunately as you know Greyhound racing was voted out in the last election so all the Florida tracks will be closing I think next year.

I think the one in Bonita is going to try to stay open and offer other things. Before that was voted out they were planning to build a brand new place on the property. You no longer live here?

Nope but we have a winter home in Punta Gorda. My gambling hobby now is all about football handicapping and that's where I spend my time. I play a little small stakes poker on line in the off-season for fun but I'm not very good, and I definitely don't want to take you on :)

I hit a tri once with the top horse being 15:1, the next two about 20:1. I was celebrating expecting to go see IRS. It paid 400. I was disappointed. Lots of people must have had the tri.

Thankfully they have finally changed those terrible tax hits. It’s really hard to get taxed now.

It’s 300 times your investment. So if you invest $100 on a super, you would have to win $30,000 to get taxed. (Just an example)

Hell, before they changed this a year and a half or so ago, I would routinely invest 4 or 5 hundred dollars in a pick four or pick five, and sometimes win just over the silly $600 then tax threshold and have to sign an IRS form. It was just stupid.

I did not know that. I wished I had a need to know that.

I’m glad you’re back posting Nail. ( You’re a favorite of mine because you don’t give a damn what anyone thinks of your opinions. I’m the same)

I know you took a sabbatical a few months ago. I’m doing the same as far as the basketball board. CBB is a love of mine, but it’s beyond a joke now.

A player like EJ leaving after one useless season is just another example of how ridiculous it truly is.

I really don't know who the defend Cal at all cost posters are. I really believe some of them are either borderline retarded or not Kentucky fans.

I've lost $200 twice at the boat playing poker. Played 8 or 9 times and that is my buy in. Every other time I walked away with some cash and I doubled up or more 3 times.

I won $700 playing 3 card poker once. My buddy lost his $100 buy in and got up from the table. No one else sat down so the way they deal I got the cards he would have gotten and it was a 3 card strait flush 3-4-5 of clubs that paid 40-1 on $10. I got up and bought him a drink. LOL!
