He also Boeheim was guilty of "trust". In other words, he's such a great guy that he trusted people and he shouldn't have. Gimme a break.

He went on a 2 minute rant defending Boehiem claiming he had nothing to do with the cheating. He was just trusting people under him. This after Boehiem skated on the Bernie Fein fiasco. Anyone left who wants to defend Vitale and his nonsense?

Vitale thinks all of his favorites should just be able to pay to cheat, but he's too damned stupid to realize that's what he's arguing.

Vitale defends ALL coaches - all these announcers are part of the coaching fraternity. DV is also going to defend anyone who writes checks for his charities. I will say that DV always defends Cal, but the NCAA is holding Boeheim responsible.

Is Dick Vitale representing Jim Boeheim? Wasn't aware Dick was practicing law, but he was most certainly defending Boeheim's rep.

He should stick to his catchphrases instead of blowing his friends and act like they are above any punishment,

A decade of that crap, Syracuse should have got the death penalty.

That was a pitiful rant by DV. He did say this, "to me cheating is an academic scandal and having fake classes". Anyone else catch that? Ole Skipper won't be happy. DV may get demoted to MAC games.

This.
Vitale is very loyal to his friends. They could probably find him standing over the body with a gun in his hand and he would still find an excuse.

vitale defending boenheim makes me sick!

Im not a dckie v hater like most of you, but that just burns me up...and his reasoning is that boehnhiem raises a lot of money for cancer??? Maybe I should rob a bank and then tell the judge to let me go because I work at a soup kitchen every week?

Just for a point of reference....Sadaam Hussein did a lot for Iraq. He built hospitals and universities. Women had a higher status in Iraq and even were encouraged to go to college than in most over Arab nations. So, why did we think he was a bad man? Kinda the same logic.

Yea, Vitale shouldn't go in to all that and what all he has done for Syracuse, he just let them get put on probation under his watch, so personal feelings and being a good guy shouldn't come in to play, they say it could have been worse, That may be why isn't doing some of the better games because he is getting to carried away.

It's irrelevant to the situation. Lots of people have given or raised millions for cancer or other diseases.

Heck, there are a number of drug dealers that do good things in their neighborhoods, but that doesn't mean they are good people. DV needs to leave the air. His excuses for certain coaches is getting old. Changing the outcome of drug tests and not implementing the NCAA policy is a big deal.

It's not like SU was accidentally cheating. They were just plain ol' cheating. While it's not a 30-year conspiracy that has mocked the rules and the spirit of the NCAA at every turn, it's still bad.

And trying to cover it up.

What does raising money for cancer have to do with punishing him for running a cheat farm.

Years ago he also went on about how Baylor coach Jim Bliss was such a great man...few days later Bliss was trying to cover up a murder for one of his players that killed a teammate

Someone at ESPN needs to take a hard look at his status. I would think he's becoming an embarrassment at this point.

He's just parroting ESPN's narrative on this. Nary of a word of the actual violations, it's all been 'has Boeheim been unjustly punished'. It's sickening.

Vitale was always a Valvano apologist, so that ought to tell you enough.

Vitale should be shaming Boeheim, but by not be objective, he simply can't do that.

The worse thing he has said about Boeheim: playing cupcakes.

And I'm not a Vitale hater, but he sure could approach his job more professionally before he spews about things he's not privvy to.

Can you imagine if this happened to UK instead of Syracuse and Cal refused to show up for the post game presser? Boeheim is an overrated, entitled coward.

Boeheim is a complete and total *** clown and has overseen Shadycuse for decades.

If they had any semblance of class, the university would kick big nose down the road.
