Not actresses because that's a whole other topic. What are the top actors that don't get enough credit? Here's mine:
  1. Edward Norton
  2. Walton Goggins (Justified, Hateful 8, Django)
  3. And obviously Danny McBride
Actually it's Damian Lewis (Band of Brothers, Billions)

You can't take highly acclaimed actors then put them in a list of underrated actors. Like Giamatti, Oldham, and Norton.

I think they're well respected for sure(Giamatti and Oldman), but each one only has one Oscar nomination. For that reason alone, they are underrated.

Nicholas Hoult

Dohmnall Gleason

Oscar Isaac
JD, solid list. I'll be honest I had to google Dohmnall Gleason but what a good call. To @100TonsofOrangeFury point, this would be a much better list than what I originally put together since they're truly underrated. Maybe even to the point where they wouldn't be recognized on the street by most people.

Thanks.

Dohmnall Gleason has been on my radar for a long time. He's the son of an excellent and probably underrated actor, Brendan Gleason. Dohmnall and Oscar Isaac were in Ex Machina together. It's a great movie and you should check it out if you haven't seen it.

I've been told by several to check this out and just haven't got around to it yet. I will make it a point to get to it soon.

Edward Norton
Ed Harris
Jim Caviezel (one of my favorites)

None have an Oscar, but I think they all should.

Edit: Adding Giamatti. Love that guy.

Another very underrated actor.

Stephen Lang. Mostly stage and tv. Hit it big in Avatar. My pick for the role of Cable in the next Deadpool movie.

My personal actor "man crush"

Idris Elba. He's done everything from goofy action flicks to Shakespeare to playing Mandela to animation to two of the best tv series ever (The Wire and Luther).

Might not be underrated except to the extent that I think he is one of the best out there right now, if not the best.....

Rumors are saying that Idris Elba may be the next Bond.

John Noble (recently on TV show Fringe)

One of the few actors who by one twitch in the face you completely understand a change in mood or emotion.
