What do you think should be a typical head football coach tenure at a top 10 school? From a fanbase expectation.

Is it unreasonable to expect a top-flight head coach to stay at one place longer than a decade? I know JoePa was our head coach for over 3 decades and was here for something like 50 yrs total. But his last decade or so had much to be desired. So I would say the 30 yrs is probably too long. Is 20 yrs too long? Is 10 yrs too long? What should the expectation be? I guess there really is no right answer. It just depends on the coach. Can he sustain a high level of performance for decades without losing his enthusiasm and determination?

Just curious what everyone thought about that.

Paterno stayed 15 years too long. Franklin has a ceiling, he's hit it.

The entire program needs a reboot including the game day experience .

I one of those guys that hate the all-inclusive fan experience. I liked how games were 15+ years ago. I will not attend a hockey game I attend the basketball game baseball and NFL football all out because of this.

It's over priced and annoying. I'm about the game, not the experience. The game should be the experience .

The tenure doesn’t really matter though I would argue if your players weren’t born when you started coaching at the school, and you aren’t having a nick saban at bama type career, it’s probably time to go. It’s a combination of age plus results on the field for the program you are talking about. Coaching at this level is a young persons game. 60+ crowd likely needs to check out. Every program will have different goals that set the floor.

Now more than ever, coaching success determines longevity in the position. Public pressure/alumni heat typically drive coaches to move. Long term tenures are less frequent.

Depends...Kirby Smart stays as long as he wants if he keeps winning. Paterno just didn't want to quit coaching and stayed way too long. And some schools are different...like Northwestern should have had Patty Fitz for 30-40 years. Iowa staying with Ferentz makes says or Calhoun ar Air Foece.

Someone like Franklin should be gone at our level of a program if they don't win a title in a decade. JMO
