What do you want to see happen on the defensive side of the ball next season?

Eliot gone?

A new DC?

Stoops just go ahead and declare himself the permanent DC?

Get rid of Brumbaugh?

Junk the 3-4 and try to adjust the current personnel to a 4-3?

Myself, I just want to see a change in personality in the defense.

This bend but don't break crap just seems to lul our guys into such a passive mentality sometimes.

So 3-4 or 4-3, doesn't matter. Got to find a way to get some more aggression into this defense.

DJ replaced by someone who can recruit and sign the needed talent to fix the front 7. He has been completely useless in the recruiting department and not much better coaching.

How about a more mature, experienced defense with better depth and talented red shirts ready to play. Did you not get the memo about a young inexperienced defense whose four best players are lost to drug abuse, head issues and injury. So, were you expecting us to stop anyone? I think the defense played admiralty given their youth and inexperience.

I'd like to see all the players actually return for next year and not do things to get thrown off the team by next year.

While the talent needs to be improved, I think a lot of it is coaching and scheming. Vanderbilt has been able to put together respectable defenses with less talent.

I'd be happy just to see them get off the field on 3rd down. I dont care what formation they line up in to do it.

I think Elot needs to go
Stoops can keep the DC duties or find someone else most anyone would be an improvement
Get away from the 3-4
Become more aggressive
Our down linemen have to make plays on or behind the LOS
I think Middleton can play,he will get better but we need help at the other spots

I'd like a new DC that players will respect; a DC that can recruit; and existing DL (except Pringle and Elam) and LBers to gain more weight.

I'm not sure we want to put that challenge out there for Elam and Pringle. Dunkin Donuts and The Mellow Mushroom are busy enough already

Hellfire man. Youth and inexperience? Are you joking me?

Let's forget the SEC for a minute.

Southern Miss and New Mexico State rung up 40+ plus points on a defense that has a former Florida State DC as the head coach.

Young and inexperienced?

J.D. Harmon / Blake McClain / Kendall Randolph / Marcus McWilson / Courtney Love / Matt Elam / Courtney Miggins / Naquez Pringle

All JRs and SRs who play regularly.

Hell, plenty of our sophomores have played a ton already.

Jordan Jones / Derrick Baity / Chris Westry / Mike Edwards / Denzil Ware / Josh Allen

Not buying the youth and inexperience BS for one damn minute.

Got a newsflash for you. This ain't the NFL. We only get these guys for 4 maybe 5 years.

If the only way we're going to have even an average SEC defense is by having a bunch of 5th year seniors, then Stoops ain't the guy for this job.

**** that is a pipe dream. You know we can count on at least 2 maybe 3 getting kicked off the team. I guess we can dream...

First of all, he needs to get some LBers and DL. We are not very good there, Jordan Jones is a player, some of the younger kids may come through on the outside LBer etc. The inside is not very good,

Unless we can come up with about 3 talented D-Lineman that average 300+ lbs each, and unless we can have 3 similar guys backing them up, it would probably be a good idea to scrap the 3-4 defense. The 3-4 can and will work if you have elite talent to use in it. But the talented, prototypical 3-4 type D-Linemen don't pick schools like UK. They instead choose schools such as Alabama. And there just aren't very many of them to go around. OTOH, there are plenty of talented kids out there that might not be big enough to play in a 3-4 scheme but would fit rather nicely in a 4-3. Those kinds of kids we have a much better chance of getting.

Want a new, proven DC, and for our redshirts on the DL and at LB to break the hell out and give us some good looks on defense. I have big expectations for Looney and Cross.

I just don't see anyway we improve on defense if Eliot is still DC, too many times our guys seem unprepared and out of position.

I want to see the players coached better.

All season I've watched the players be out of position!

Getting burned on those cutbacks yesterday, 11 games into the season was stuff you don't see in HS...

How about Orgeron as the new DC/DL coach and kick-*** recruiter? Think he'd improve our guys now and help us land some studs.

Wish we'd go more for speed and less for bulk. I'm okay averaging 270 across the DL if we have tons of speed to compensate. A couple of 300-lb guys in the middle and then a bunch of fast 230-250 lb guys. That'd suit me just fine.

The front 7 must improve drastically IMO. Need more push on the line and more reaction from LBers. Love is not the answer IMO. Good kid I'm sure, but I can't recall a big play or hit from him all season. Gotta get more from that position.

I think Kash is gonna step in and play some good minutes for us next year. A RS year would have helped him but depth wouldn't allow it. He may not start next year but I think he'll be improved enough to split snaps with Love. He'll start and lead us in tackles his Jr and Sr years. Kids gonna be a player.

Maybe so, but they need more than Kash.

Well I was only referring to your "we need to get more out of that position" comment. I think Love will be more productive if he can get some snaps off. And will prob be even more productive once he sees a true sophomore about to take his job. I agree he was maybe the biggest disappointment on D this year but I think that position will be much improved next year.

Consistancy, the defense has looked real good at times and real bad at others. We should have enough offense to win more than we lose.

Yes - you can't have a good defense in the SEC playing a 3-4 defense unless you have elite players.

Then why is Vandy playing defense at such a higher lever when UK has way out recruited Vandy in the past 4 years? Maybe our coaches on defensive side of ball aren't up to the mustard?

I just get tired of this "talent" argument when we're not looking to be like an Alabama but we can't even sniff a mediocre defense by SEC standards and we keep going back to the argument "coaches can't be held to standards due to talent"...so we throw them both out as excuses and never schemes/player development.

If we had Vandy's D and coaching we'd be looking at an 8-10 win ball club imho.
