What former PSU Players would be great as coaches at their position?

If just for a season I would have the following
LaVar as Head Coach:

I would put Sean Lee as a D. Coordinator.

Poz as the LB Coach

WR: Engram or Godwin
TE: ?
OL: ? Maybe Rich Ohrnberger (He'd be a great recruiter)
RB?
CB. T. Smith

Can't think o

It's such a tough question because great players often aren't great coaches

Engram is the easy one. I'd have him as the OC with LaVar handling NIL. D'anton Lynn as the HC.

There’s no way to answer this without knowing their aptitude for teaching and recruiting. And I’d say there’s a lot of evidence that the highest performing athletes rarely make great coaches. Might be hard for them to relate to players with lesser skill?

Exactly. LaVar for example...the biggest criticism of him while playing was that he rarely followed instructions/assignments and would often "freelance" to try and make big plays. His natural ability was his biggest trait, which can't really be taught. He couldn't do it himself, but we think he could coach kids to stick with their assignments?

My bad to Mike Robinson:

Forgot about M. Rob he has to be at least co-head coach. He could run the entire offense. Knows it from playing and succeeding at almost every position, winner at every level. He knows qb, rb, Oline, receiver. Young, knows the base can recruit.

Just daydreaming.

Yes its also rare that best players make the best coaches as an overall package. However their insight as to "how to play" would offset some of that.

I would take M. Millen as DL or DC

Since Dan Conner is there maybe add/replace w Poz for LB's (anyone from the Vanderlinden Tree ) works here

D Lee as DC if Millen is DL

Wiz or Munchak at OL

Think we have T Smith already for DB's (notice he does have a mentality of how to play already instilled)

Does Blackledge want to be OC he's been close enough to study all the teams for all his broadcasts pretty sure he can pickup the X' O's like riding a bike ==> Id pick him

WR and RB are just too hard as they are stylized positions --would be hard to pick
Have to think Godwin has a good understanding of all the WR roles

RB Would have to say maybe either Warner or Carter as both had the instincts and all around ability to probably properly convey how to play but this is such an instinctual position ..either you have it or you don't in most cases

QB coach not a PSU'er most likely, again like RB it could fluctuate as to the style of offense or vice versa so I punt on this one EG (Caldwell wasnt bad worked with the likes of Shaffer but he went to Iowa as a player)
