Stoops talked about him needing to become more disciplined off the field IIRC. Hopefully he gets his act together because he seems like a great talent.

Edit: Turns out I have no idea what I'm talking about. Off the field issues actually weren't talked about by Stoops. Brown has just been playing at a higher level.

Eli Brown stepped in front of him....????
I get the impression that Jones was demoted as a way to get a point across. Stoops keeps making comments about how Jones needs to be more disciplined and do the right things. I'm sure Brown has looked good after hearing some of the comments on him but IMO this move was done to send a message to Jones. He will probably be the starter again soon

Why is it always perceived as a negative when a kid moves up the depth chart? If you thought Jones was a good player then it would seem to me to then think that Brown must have improved (not that something must have happened to Jones) - at least enough to move ahead, even if temporarily. Depth charts aren't always written in stone.

plus the way i took the discipline comment was that he wasn't reading plays right. they said he'd blow up one play then hit the wrong whole and give up a big gainer.... repeat. they want him reading his keys right all the time would be more disciplined... is that not it was meant?

In the past coaches at "ky" couldn't do this to a talent like Jones!
It is nice to be able to get a guy's attention by replacing him with someone of equal talent!

Jones was nothing but class when he explained his demotion, personally he looks more physically developed but us gotta keep your head on straight

You're asking for too much thought process. :D

The words "off the field" were never used. Not once, actually. Eli Brown has just been playing better. More fundamentally sound.

Eli was the higher rated of the two out of high school and is more athletic. It really shouldn't shock anyone that he has moved ahead.

I took it from the coaches comments that Jones may have been freelancing a little bit instead of executing his assignment. That's what was meant by being more disciplined not anything negative.

It's nice to have quality depth that lets you coach like this. In years past we were lucky to have 3 SEC worthy starters and 3 scrubs behind them. You couldn't do anything like that then.

Yeah, I'm thinking our linebacking corps is better than many think. A lot of very impressive guys throughout.

Yep, I just looked at the quote and you're right; he definitely never said anything about off the field issues. Should've looked at the quote in its entirety before posting, sorry about that.

It's definitely a positive that Brown has played well. Competition is never a bad thing for sure.
