What Has Happened To JB?

Think he has just about missed every cut since since winning the Genesis.
Followed him yesterday and today. His putting and chipping seems to look like a 20 handicappers.

He did hit a lot of good drives today, but he made bogey on the par 5 5th with an iron in his hands from the fairway.

He just pisses so many shots away unnecessarily.

Thankfully he some how won in LA. (Not sure how that happened)

He has no pressure because of that win, but his game really sucks at the moment.

He seems to generally play well at Pebble. Could contend there I guess, but I don’t like his current form. (He’s entered for the Canadian Open next week surprisingly)

He is the epitome of a streaky golfer. He can go on a heater or a freezer and it can happen week to week.

You’re right. I’ve seen players miss 3 straight cuts and then win a tournament. There’s little doubt in my mind that John will find himself in contention again before the year is over.

Golf is hard. That said, many players like JB will win a tournament and then go into hibernation because they get fat and happy for awhile. IMO, there are very few players on tour who truly have a hunger to want to win. Most are just happy making enough to keep their cards and maintain a comfortable living. Think Rory called them out a few years ago stating pretty much what I just said.

JB has always had a bad case of John-Daly-itis.
Grip it and Rip it.
That doesn't work at Bethpage or Muirfield.

JB was close to dead last the week at Pebble before he won. It's a strange game.

With JB, it's really his putting that costs him. He hit the ball incredibly well at Augusta but missed 90% of his good birdie looks the last 2.5 rounds. When he has good putting weeks he contends or gets good finishes. I hope he takes some extra hours to work on the practice green and figure it out.

I couldn’t agree more.

Personally, I believe he overthinks on the greens. Just my observation.

I think it's the 5 minutes he takes to pull the trigger on each shot.

There a million slow players out there. I get why JB gets bashed but I don’t see why it seems other guys don’t get it. Jordan Spieth is really slow at times as well and no one complains about that. I think where it gets JB is on the green like kev69 said. I think his game would be better off if he sped a bit.

This may be a hot take, but slow play doesn’t really bother me too much. It can be bad sometimes but rounds take about 5 hours usually. The fastest these guys could play would be 4 hours or 4 hours 15 minutes. The extra hour or so doesn’t bother me. Watching golf on a Sunday will always be something that takes a lot of time. That’s just the way it is. Plus, when you factor in that a lot of these courses have super fast greens and if it gets windy of course it’s going to take a little longer.

I actually like the slowness.. on sunday, i can wake up get some ish done with it on , hit the lake drink a few beers, have it on the outside tv, and then settle in and watch the end.

JB is well on his way to another missed cut this week. He was -4.1 strokes gained putting today alone. You just wonder if he’s even been practicing his putting. I understand bad putting rounds happen, but since Riveria, I’d bet he’s been negative strokes gained in almost every single round.

After round 1 at Riveria he said he and his coach spent a few hours practicing his putting and it paid off. He won and was I think 2nd in putting for the week. Hopefully he does something similar going forward.

Nah, not when he's running 2-3 holes behind. He deserves what he gets. Na and Spieth both caught heat and neither are as slow.

I'm always going to root for him but it's an issue and I can't imagine it helps.

Yeah, he’s really out of sorts right now.
