What is the Buyout for Stoops After 2026?

Assuming Stoops is here for 2026, what would the buyout be? We know it is $38 million after this season so if he comes back next year, 2026, what will it cost to buy him out after the 2026 season?

I’m assuming it’s a years salary. So, deduct his 9 million yearly salary. So, 38 million - 9 million, would be 29 million.

He’s not going anywhere, unless some big money booster wants to “pony up” 30+ million dollars.

Not a single decent program wants Mark Stoops. The only school dumb enough to pay him $9 million a year, to be 1-11 in his last 12 conference games, is, uh, well, Kentucky.

And by the way, he’s won nothing in 14 years here. He’s 0-13 against Georgia. Still hasn’t beaten Chumlee at Tennessee. Hasn’t even played in a conference championship game. Mizzou has played in 2 since joining the league.

Yeah, he's essentially benefitted from bigger name teams n the sec east being down at times. 12th game continues to add an automatic win each season.

He looks absolutely miserable. Someone who cares about him should get in his ear and suggest he negotiates a buyout himself.

I get it. He can force UK’s hand, but why? He’s got more money than he will ever need. Go to Mitch and offer to take half the promised buyout to walk at the end of the season.

Sure, he could get the entire thing by waiting it out but is it worth it? That’s years of being miserable. Offer to take $15 million or whatever and enjoy life.

If he refuses to step down, we make his time around program absolute hell. Obviously not bother him or family on personal level but let the boos and obscenities fly at Kroger!

Brother idk how to tell you this but stoops is not the first UK coach to not make an SEC title game. In fact we’ve never ever made it once in our history

and if that’s your bar for success at Kentucky, I’m afraid you’re gonna be disappointed the rest of your life. Our ceiling is 10-3 citrus bowl in an SEC down year, consistently 7 or 8 wins is the best I think you can ever expect from UK given our massive disadvantages compared to half of the conference

stoops needs to go but you definitely shouldn’t be listing ‘never made SEC title game’ as a reasonable thing we ever expected him to do.

He was able to rid us of Cal without paying him a penny....despite a lifetime contract. I trust MB to do something similar with Stoopsid.

Mitch had absolutely nothing to do with that, cal was coming back until he messed up and violated his contract talking to Arkansas and trying to negotiate even more from Mitch. If he hadn’t broken his contract cal would still be here.

It would go down by 75% of his yearly salary. So 9m x 4.5 x.75 = 30.375m. I think his salary go up a small amount so a bit more. The 4.5 is for the years remaining on his contract assuming he is fired effective Jan 1, 2027.

I agree for the most part, but if Indiana can compete for the BIG 10 and make the CFP, we certainly can as an SEC school. It takes the right administration and hire. We have enough resources to produce a competitive team a couple years a decade. You can literally buy talent now. Just need a coach and the right guys.

Just an insane contract. Take Arkansas coach. He had to be over .500 overall to get a 9 million dollar buyout. That’s the kind of offer Stoops should have had.

Wow, that is still a lot of money. But we may have to do it if he remains our coach.

Should’ve done that when he flirted with A&M but no he extends and gives him more money. Mitch is so stupid when it comes to contracts.
I'm not aware of any revision to Mark's contract after amendment six which was signed in Nov 2022. Please provide a link to indicate Mitch extended and gave him more money after he flirting with aTm.

This is my thinking as well.

People keep saying we can't pay the buyout. Most likely, Stoops is miserable enough to either reduce the buyout or take it in payments.

The fans are over it. The national media are going to start talking more and more about it.

If we care about Football, we can't keep running the same garbage out week after week, year after year.

You're correct he signed his extension in 2022 and flirted with A&M in 2023 that was my bad I had them flip flopped in my mind. My point still stands that when his foot was out the door and was ready to go to A&M the very next year after signing his extension at UK he should've been let go. They were all but going to hire Stoops at A&M until it was vetoed. According to this article sources say that Stoops was telling staff members , friends and boosters that he was leaving for college station until they said no no no no.....

Arkansas should have waited a few more games and it would have saved them some money. He was 2 games above .500 since 2021. If they would have waited, that number drops to $5.7 million. I don’t know why they didn’t.

Ninety nine percent of that was Cals stupidity though.

That was more Cal's stupidity than Barnhart's smarts.
This is just "BarnMan Bad" style Barnhart Derangement Syndrome. If the contract was the dumbest lifetime contract thingy evah....then why "screw up" and risk it by flirting with Ark? Do you really think Cal was stupid too? Agree he was a carnival barker...but stupid is not something he is. He certainly played our fanbase for years.

Mitch played it perfectly. Cal left on his own and we paid him squat.

If it was five bucks people would say this is Kentucky he’s not going anywhere. We can’t compete we are in the SEC. And honestly it seems to be the truth. We will never make an effort to be a good football team. I’ll just enjoy basketball. Well I’ll enjoy the **** show too in a different way. I’ll laugh since being a joke is acceptable around here. Give Stoops more time.

I would absolutely say that Cals ego and arrogance made him do a stupid thing . He hadn’t decided whether he was taking the Arkansas job but Mitch had the “Breach of contract “ papers drawn up and delivered to his house the very day he found out about Cal talking with Arkansas. I know this for a fact.

We don’t know that Mitch didn’t renegotiate Stoops contract after the A&M deal and take the buyout way down, and /or reduce his salary. He could have done that privately and gone about his day.

Very doubtful. Stoops' contract is a public record. Not to say that Mitch could not have reached some form of private deal but I seriously doubt it.

You can be smart in some areas and an idiot in others. Cal thought there was no way anyone would ever terminate him so he could do what he wanted regardless of contract terms. So, he was stupid by letting his ego get the best of him. He's not the first and won't be the last smart person to do something stupid.

How long have you been a UK football fan? UK athletics is just in it for the SEC cut in football. Other than a few years, we have always run the same garbage out.

But Cal QUIT. He wasn't terminated. He quit despite having a "lifetime contract". A contract that the BDS infected among us said we were stuck with him for life. I still haven't seen apologies from all the haters who were WRONG. Mitch got rid of Cal and he will do the same to Stoopids.

From what I understand he was told to either resign or be fired for breech of contract. I don't think he wanted to leave.

Oklahoma, Ole Miss, A&M and Vandy have also never made an SEC title game. If everybody eventually makes one ... wanna take a guess who will be the last one to make it? ;)
