Could be anything ... kidney stone, lumbar puncture, dental, etc.

It's not worth speculating. He's at the game, so that's a positive.

If it were a cyst removal, then I would imagine first of all it's painful, and secondly need to let the stitches heal a bit before you put stress on them.
