What position for Reggie Bonnafon in 2015?

Really, really tough to say, especially officially adding Lamar Jackson to the QB mix now. My guess is he will go through spring and even fall training as a QB to see how he stacks up. Then he and Bobby will probably have a real honest talk. We signed Khane Pass today, whose brother Jawon Pass is the #1 dual-threat QB for 2016. My personal guess is that WR will be RB's best option going forward. He doesn't "seem" like the hitting type to me for a DB.

I hope the kid gets on the field somewhere because he's a talent.

But the silence from the people who anointed RB as the next Teddy Bridgwater is deafening.

He may yet, but from this past year he has a LOT of work to do.

He is a good athlete but he is NOT a college QB. He struggles being
accurate and can not make proper reads against defensive coverages.
He'll probably get a opportunity in spring but ultimately I think he'll
switch to WR.

We know one thing we will have a lot of competition
in Spring ball, which is a good thing. I really like Lamar Jackson but I
can't see him winning the starting gig in 2015. I hope we can redshirt
him to further develop him.

Unless he has some sort of an epiphany, he will for sure play QB in the Spring practices. The question may come down to how badly he wants to play QB. It's the most important position on the field, and Petrino obviously wants the best guy he can get in that job.

If it's a priority for Reggie, we may see him looking elsewhere to play. If he takes the advice of people who are smarter about football than he is, he will keep an open mind and get playing time sooner rather than later. But not necessarily at the QB position...

It will be interesting to see. Not sure of Gardner's rehab time table I'm assuming he is definitely out of Spring Ball and my guess is he will not be ready win camp opens in August. If he is not ready when camp open I doubt he takes a snap all season.

That leaves Bonnafon, Furguson, Bolin and Thomas at QB in the Spring. After watching Bolin against Georgia he has to get a lot stronger physically to be the starter in my Opinion. I have never seen Furguson play but a lot of people have written on this board that he was the best QB on the roster last spring. Still, the guy has only taken a few actual snaps in a college game. And at Penn State he was beaten out for the starting QB position by a true freshmen(a very highly regarded recruit). I am assuming Thomas is not a factor because if he was he would have got a shot this year.
That leaves RB as possibly our most experienced QB heading into the season (asumming Gardners out).

So what position does he play next year? QB. He is either going to grab control of the position or he will be reshirted as a QB. The guy has good potential and sitting out a year would do a lot of good. Plus, other than Lamar Jackson, all the others have been redshirted.

My QB Prediction: I think BP will go with a 2 QB system. He will use a traditional drop back passer(Furguson or Bolin) but he will also have a mobile QB package(Bonnafon or Jackson).

Why will BP do this? First I don't think anyone of these guys will distance themselves from the others. Second, I suspect our O-line is going to be an issue again next season. Mobility will be skill we need in some games. Having a mobile QB is desirable in the red zone. The threat of the QB running with the ball makes the defense account for that and opens up other things. And finally it will make the Cards difficult to prepare for.

Final Prediction

Furguson/Jackson share the QB position. Bonnafon Redshirts. Gardner sits out season rehabing.

Y'all want Bobby to tell the only QB we have on the roster who won on the road to move to another position because Bolin beat a UK team with a losing record and we signed a mostly running QB?

Let me know when one of you suggest this notion to one of the coaches, I would love to be there.

No, he needs to tell Reggie move to another position because he can't make progression reads, checkdowns, or pass worth a sh*t. Maybe he will have improved in those areas but I just don't see it happening. Hope I'm wrong.

And yet he won at ND,BC,Cuse with such deficiencies as a TRUE freshman.

Bobby mentioned just yesterday how impressed he was at how Reggie was such a "quick learner" during the summer.

99% of freshman come in with these types of things to learn.

A year ago many posters said Reggie wouldn't make it to fall practice at QB. In his first year he became our winningest QB and lead us to our most impressive road wins. With such improvement imagine what he can do after a full off season, something the other QB's have benefitted from multiple times.

Who knows how good or bad he could be. He only played qb one season in high school. Given time he could be the real deal.

We also won despite them. The running game, the defense, and a little bit of luck also played huge roles.

I get it, you disagree. But there's nothing you can point to from Reggie's freshman year to force me to believe he can be "the guy". Like I said, I hope I'm wrong.

Love the idle challenges. It is not just because of Bolin and Jackson, but also Ferguson. That is one crowded huddle for a guy who is challenged at reading defenses and has problems with accuracy at times.

To the OP, I think we see RB give it a go this season at QB, but reluctantly change positions in 2016.

if you don't believe Reggie's play in the teams wins at ND,BC,and Cuse had a major role in those victories then I have no idea how to convince you he should play QB. Also, I can't make the arguement that any of our QB performances were crucial to our success or failures throughout the year.

I have concerns any of our QB's can be "the guy". But I'm not going to degrade any of their accomplishments and suggest they are not good enough to compete for the starting role.

Overall, I'm proud of all 3 guys for competing throughout the year considering what each one went through the whole season. We won 9 games with 3 starting QB's in our first year in the ACC. I believe we might have been one of the few programs to start 3 QB's.

Since we have one of the best qb coaches in America I think RB will do exactly what CBP wants him to do. Advisedly, I would suggest that we just wait to see what coach recommends before we "decide" what RB should do.

I have trouble believing we are discussing him being moved. He played pretty well for a freshman and showed a lot of promise considering he only played the position for a year in HS. Maybe the QBs coming in are that good, but they haven't proven anything yet either.

He is not a legit starting QB for a big time program, which is Jurich is going for.

If you think that Louisville is paying a DC 1.4m a year and hiring Petrino back to compete for playoff spots with Reggie Bonnafon at QB, you are crazy.

He will not be a starting QB at Louisville going forward. I am sure he is a good kid.

He started at QB for Trinity's Freshman team and JV teams for two years while playing receiver on Varsity and also was the back up QB his Sophomore and Junior seasons. He was the started his Senior year.

Yea like he said, played QB for one year. There's no telling where he ends up. People getting bent out of shape about which position should get a life. Especially since college players never change positions. Too bad Kerry Rhodes, Michael Bush, and Marcus Smith were open minded to moving positions.

Reggie will have a chance in the spring and summer camps to compete for the starting QB position. If he isn't the start or backup then I believe he will be giving the option to move to WR if he likes. But he was a true freshman, so there is always the option to redshirt

well, I'm shocked so many of you think this way about Bonnafon. Y'alls QB standards are awfully high if the most successful QB last year is getting calls to play another position. don't know why you guys see so much in the other QB' s to be comfortable moving him to WR, which he is not good enough to play at UofL btw. But, it's a waiting game. I'll cheer on whomever is at UofL at whatever position.

You know I tell it the way it is
Bobby and McGee think he's a future star qb
He wants to be a qb
He has 3 full years left
Not moving positions
Staff loves him
They know more about QBs than every single poster on this board combined including Howie and mike
So they love what they see
I think Tyler is the 1
Reggie is the change of pace
But if you hold your breath waiting for Bobby or the kid to want to move positions then you'll be blue in the face and pass out

I would love for Bonnafon to be successful at QB. And if Petrino thinks he can be (I do not think this is the case), I will support 100%.

If he is the starter next year, he may win some games vs average ACC teams like he did last year. But if you look at what we have coming back and coming in thru transfer/recruiting class, this team could be very good. And I do not see Reggie Bonnafon capable of winning big time football games in the ACC and if we have good QB play, I feel the year could be special.

In my opinion, he is not a very good QB. Not saying we have anything much better on the team now but I am curious to see what the transfer is all about and also how good the kid coming in is.

I do not mean to be offensive and my first post above prob was a bit strong in the wording. I am 100% sure that any coach on the football staff and a number of posters on this board know more about QB play than me.

Its just an opinion on Reggie.

He could definitely play wr at this level and be successful
he did very well at wr in hs against the best competition in the country
but the staff believes he's a star qb
they aren't moving him

Cardstud I agree. In my post I say he has good potential and I also say he could grab control of the position in the spring.
But my gut feel is that there is not going to be a lot of seperation between Furguson, Bolin & RB. And if thats true I think BP is not going to want all 3 to burn up a year of eligibility. Bolin(Redshirt) and Furguson(transfer year) can't reshirt(unless its a medical reshirt). He could redshirt Jackson but again I have a hunch thats not going to happen. So I think they ask RB to redshirt.

The redshirt angle is an interesting one
I think that's much more possible than a position move
What I'm talking about is bobby believes Reggie will be a star qb
It's not me guessing
It's not me hoping or thinking or wishing
It's words directly from his mouth
He followed the kid all 4 years at THS
he loves his potential
He loves what he thinks he can do with him
I'm not sure I can be any clearer on what I'm taking about
Hopefully we are on the same page now

#1 QB is Reggie's to lose, but he WILL lose it if he doesn't take a rather big step forward from last season. Bolin & Ferguson should be his primary competition. I'm afraid Gardner's ship has sailed, due to bad knees. Lamar will RS .

Well....you can be more clear about you are talking about because your post is terrible to read and is pretty embarrassing.

But the coming from his mouth line is hilarious....what did you think he was going to say?

No, we are not on the same page because Bonnafon is not going to be a star QB and Petrino does not think he is either. The transfers and recruiting are pretty indicative of that. Admire your support but not your ability to know what the hell you are talking about.

If you do respond, please try and step it up a bit and do it in a way that a sixth grade student would not shake his head at.

Thanks in advance.

Take it from those who hold the mic when CBP and coaches talk and have conversations with the coaches off the record; CBP is very high on Reggie. I've been saying this the first week CBP got here. BTW,Reggie was at the top of the recruiting board at QB for Strong and his staff as well.

CBP wants 5 QB's on roster. Always has. Most practices require 5 Qb's just to run an effective practice. One of those Qb's has transferred back out, is that supposed to mean something?

Birdteeth has proven to be a reliable poster who has inside information with the football program.
