What score vs Jacksonville State to inspire any hope?

Seems like we have to ask this question after for a matchup against a supposed inferior opponent. Shoot, we already asked this year for our matchup against Furman.

I would say, we need to see a dominant win to offer any shred of hope that the problems we have had this year are not deep-rooted. A win on the order of 42-20.

If we win, I suspect it won't be dominant, though. Maybe something like 25-12.

I look for another game against an overmatched opponent where they give Carolina all they want for the first half and the talent gap takes over in the second half. I look for a final score in the 45-24 range but Jax might be leading 17-14 at the half.

I hope we don't see Beamer leaving the starters in late in the game to pile up stats against a cupcake. That is so Clemson.

I hope we beat the crap out of Jacksonville State. I hope it's a crazy score along the lines of 70-0. That would be fun, and a nice break to the monotony of bad football and frustrating losses.

That said, even if we win big like that, it's not going to inspire any hope for me. I don't think a result in this game or against Vandy is going to do much to change how I feel about this team.

Win by 30 points, plus
Give up no more than 1 sack, plus
Rush for 150+ yards, plus
Get beaten deep for a TD no more than once

Cover the spread plus a little. Vegas usually, but not always, is fairly close. Basically just a game to get a little confidence before moving on. The rest of the games are the ones that matter. If we lose this game things are way worse than we want to imagine. Would love to see the running game get something going.

Regardless of the score, I would like to see the defense hold them to no more that three conversions on third or fourth down for the game. No touchdowns allowed. On offense, an effective running game, no sacks, and no turnovers.

I do think this is a game that will show just how bad things are. We handled Furman pretty well, but they are FCS. Jax is a quality G5 program, though. If we can win comfortably, I think that offers some assurance that our problems are correctable. If we struggle or, heaven forbid, if they win, that will be quite an indictment on the state of the program.
