Furthermore, I don't even know who Noah Chast is.
Furthermore x2 , I was born and raised in NC. Lived 3 years in PA before moving back to NC and vowed NEVER to go north of the Virginia state line ever again, and even VA is iffy..... armpit of the USA - PA. - Call me what you will but I ain't got no desire to be rubbing elbows with no Yankees. At all. Ever. And the ones who move here...... I tell them to their face that they are not welcome here and to move back, ASAP.

My take: Beamer was trying to put a positive spin on not making the playoffs by saying our team would have *TIME* in FL to go enjoy stuff before the game......
While SMU going to play at Penn St..... they'll be concentrating on their game because it's the playoffs and if they lose, they're done. (Implying they won't have time to visit "stuff" in PA , ie: the chocolate factory)

There is no spin or anything here. He is simply making the very obvious and valid point that gamecocks have nothing to be disappointed about. We are going to a great bowl game and the team gets to spend a week hanging out in Orlando. There are much worse fates in life

Uh, yeah, I think it pretty obviously was. Anybody who knows PA would get it.
I have family scattered around PA, including about 1 hour south of State College. Central PA is not a destination area.
I think Beamer's point was simply "Hey, would we have loved to be in the playoffs? Of course. But we get to go a great bowl game and hang out for a week in Orlando, so that ain't too shabby."
