Last year, the league distributed around $23 million to eight members, while TCU and West Virginia received $14 million, which were 67 percent shares. Both TCU and West Virginia agreed to staggered payments upon joining the conference. This year, the Frogs and Mountaineers will receive 85 percent shares before jumping to full shares from revenue generated during the 2015-16 school year.

$14 million is 67% of $23 million? Must be New Math.

More sitting on their hands while we continue to be the odd man out as a league. We jumped from the Big East to the Big East south. Too few members to even play a championship game and no interest to put ourselves on the same level as the other conferences. Don't be shocked if this league folds just like the last!

I would be shocked. I don't like the addition of BYU and Cincy. Yeah we get to 12 but big whoop, they don't secure the league. There are no schools out there that gets us to the level of the SEC, the PAC or the BIG10. I think by LEVEL you mean untouchable, and those three Conferences are untouchable. The ACC and the BIG12 are not untouchable but neither are likely to add any more schools that make either conference "secure" either. Adding BYU and Cincy is not going to keep Texas and Oklahoma from leaving if they want to, and that is the only way the BIG12 folds. At least that's the way I see it. I don't see them as sitting on their hands when there are no better options.

While anything is possible I don't think you have to look very hard to see that there is much more similarity and affinity between the schools of the B12 than there ever was in the BE. Further .... the money each member makes (even without a championship game) is a strong incentive to keep this conference going.

I do not think there is a pair of teams that would prevent Texas and Oklahoma from leaving if they really wanted to leave. I would feel much better about the conference if we had 12 members and a championship game. Of course everyone on this board knows how I feel on this issue.

People with this additude are just ridiculous. The Big 12 has been an increadible boon for WVU and it is much different than the Big LEast.

Here are just a few ways:

1. We culturally fit with the Big 12 teams...we NEVER did in the Big LEast
2. It is a football conference...
3. It is an all sports conference...no conflicts of interest with the Catholic schools who always poisoned the pot.
4. No Notre Dumb to leach off of the conference
5. Much, much stronger programs in this conference
6. Solid TV contract
7. Not stupid enough to take on poor programs just to keep people like you happy.

Reason enough? Okay, never mention it again PLEASE.

Pardon me if I get frustrated with watching this conference make the EXACT same mistakes as the big East.
1)The Big East was a national power in football when it had Miami, VT, and even BC rolling.
2)The Big XII is a balanced conference. The Big East was at one time as well with equally great football and basketball.
3)Amen on ditching the catholic schools. But do you think Texas and Oklahoma are really any less a batch of drama queens than those guys? They feel it's their conference to do with as they please just like the catholic schools did the Big East.
4)The one true blessing about not going to the ACC is putting distance between WVU and anything ND related!
5)Really? Historically you are correct. But the Big East had some pretty dam good programs as well before their shortsightedness (ie. not adding members for a championship game) forced those programs to leave.
6)Can't argue with that!
7)They don't have to appease me. The playoff committee told them flat out that you are playing with the deck stacked against you. And we sit by and wait.........like we were gonna wait on the new Big East TV contract, like we were gonna wait for the rest of the conferences to realize the championship games weren't necessary, like we were gonna wait and see where the Big XII pieces landed when Texas and Oklahoma bolted, like we waited on ND to feel sorry for us and join the Big East to become a solid league again.

If you can't tell waiting and hoping has proven once already not to be a good business model.

I'd like to comment on number 5 and 7. I don't think we were trying to get a championship game as much as we simply wanted to add some teams in all sports that would strengthen the football side of the conference. The basketball schools did not want to add anyone that would reduce the power they held. That was a totally different problem. Most, if not all of the football schools actually wanted to expand and NONE of the basketball schools did (with the exception of the harebrained scheme to elevate Villanova). Which brings up number 7. All we have to do is have a team that clearly finishes as 1 of the top 4 teams. I don't believe, and I don't think the BIG12 believes that the BIG12 is going to go year after year without a team in the top 4. Now if it is proven that the next 5 years go by and it is always the BIG12 finishing outside the top 4, then you may have a point and it becomes worth the loss of playing every team home and home, and the possible dilution of earnings that would come with adding 2 more teams. You may find however, that in 5 years they have decided that 4 slots for 5 major conferences is never going to work and they will expand the playoffs to eight teams. (Which I think is both the actual problem and the obvious solution). If the playoffs are expanded to 8 teams and we already jumped the gun and added teams like Cinncy and UCF then we are going to be awfully sorry.

If a Big 12 team is among the top 4 in the rankings, then it WILL be in the national playoffs. But Ohio State leap-frogged Baylor and TCU with the 13th game, which could just as easily eliminated the Buckeyes from the playoffs, just like WVU losing to Pitt let Ohio State play for the national title.

NOT having a championship game does NOT eliminate the Big 12 champ from the national playoffs. The Big 12, over recent years, vies with the Pac-12 and the Big 10 for No. 2 to the SEC. Two years ago, the Big 12 was No. 2. Last year, the Pac-12 was No. 2.

Over-reaction is just as bad as inaction.

Cool it. Any Big 12 team that wins the Big 12 title and has one loss will be in the playoffs this season. You can count on it.

It's time to stop letting aberrations make you decide what to do over the long haul.

Now, bring on Georgia Southern, Liberty and Maryland so that WVU can begin its Big 12 Murderers' Row at 3-0. With Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor and TCU to start the conference schedule, the Mountaineers need to get ready really fast. Hopefully, playing Georgia Southern and Liberty will mean that WVU will be relatively healthy for the Big 12 juggernaut.
