What was Coach K thinking.

K went to Barrett all year- I’ve never ever disagreed more. You absolutely must go Zion.

I’m so confused
This. RJ has always been the guy for some reason. I mean that in no disrespect to RJ. But Zion is far more efficient and has a higher chance of scoring inside than RJ does from three. But this is the song we've been singing all year. Jack up threes when you have one of the most efficient players in history down in the paint.

The OaD era makes each end of the season easier and easier actually, even though this team was different. It's still simply a mind numbingly frustrating time to be a college bball, and especially a Duke bball fan.

Combine that with having no earthly idea what a foul is anymore, and watching every single game officiated completely differently, and this is without a doubt the darkest era of the sport.

Same crap different board! K didn’t shoot any shot didn’t turn it over any or not box out! We were a flawed team all season but those kids fought their butts every game and were an extremely fun bunch to watch and pull for! Will miss watching them play and extremely disappointed in losing tonight but up 3 with a min 30 left we force a tough shot just don’t get the rebound that’s not on K. Yeah would’ve been nice for Zion to get the ball next possession and he did at top of key and passed it back to RJ and he took a tough shot it is what it is! Yes it sucks and is tough to swallow we should be in the Final 4

Not resting tre and giving goldwire a shot was equally terrible. It makes absolutely no sense. How does a guy become an important rotation player and then see nothing in the sweet sixteen and elite eight whereas Alex plays almost nothing and suddenly is the top guy in the sweet sixteen? Coach k has the goat resume but has been terrible this tournament. Sorry for you old timers but it’s the truth

Actually think you’ve gotta go with Tre or Cam with 8 seconds left if you’re driving the ball because Izzo and MSU aren’t going to let a guy get to the rim without fouling him. We’ve been able to win despite our two best players not being able to shoot FTs well all year long. It bit us in the *** today and cost us a Championship. Between RJ’s misses and Zion’s multiple opportunities for the FG and 1 Free Throw. Zion missed every and 1 FT that I recall.

I would trust Tre to make those FTs and probably Reddish.

Zion didn’t take a shot in the final 1:44 of the game is unacceptable...

Duke lost three games all year with Zion in the lineup and Barrett went 0-9 in those three games. Zion only had one shot in those three games which is unexplainable..

Like I stated earlier...“we bash Cam and we aren’t true fans. Same people protecting Cam are the same ones bashing K.” Whatever. Maybe K shoulda set that screen at the end higher for RJ to roll off of. Oh well. Glad K is leaving next year.

Oh no, dont call out Cam but let's bash our coach that's brought 5 championships

Dang guys we were a missed FT from OT. Did K miss the FT. I guess K hit the Laettner shot, and the Dunleavy 3s, and the Tyus Jones pull up etc...

Agreed. This place sounds like THR or Rupp Rafters. Yes, it sucks that we lost but turning native on K or RJ has never been our style.

Maybe, just maybe the other teams took Zion away one play. Idk I’d have to go back and see. But it is possible...right?

This team... even giving up 17 turnovers is infuriating.... despite the flaws this was a banner year.

Not bashing K..... never would. But I do question- maybe you can’t differentiate???

Zion just has to shoot multiple times in this end game. I personally just did not trust RJ with it on the line. I’m no K obviously- but I didn’t love the calls

RJ can’t help but try and be the man. He’s not Zion. Can’t even make FTs. If you want to be the man down the stretch you either need to finish or hit FTs. He rarely does either.

It is a step backwards for Coach to get beat by Izzy in March. But it was more of Izzo juniors and seniors knowing what it took to win a huge game like this in March. This experience will pay big dividends for our freshmen at the next level next year

It never works out for most teams, heck even for Duke see 94, 99, 02, 04, 11...those were hell of a duke team with K at his best and still didnt win

Zion touched the ball those last possessions, but he always deferred to RJ. We also made some really bad entry passes the last six minutes.

My only gripe on coaching was not extending ball pressure the last few minutes and being aggressive. We had fouls to give....I thought we should have sought that out more.

Imo, Zion never got the number of touches he deserved all season. Related to that, we never seemed to run sets for him often enough either. Then have been players in the past (generally guards) where we'd run plays to get them open constantly. Look at all the sets drawn up for JJ.

To be fair, the sideline reporter announced Coach K told the team to be aggressive because they had fouls to give and they apparently didn't listen.

To be aggressive is one thing but I believe K and the staff should have had them give a couple of fouls with under 2 min left in a very tight game with the foresight that it could come into play. Usually this is not an issue because it’s rare to have so few team fouls at the end of a game. But you have to plan for it and we didn’t.

My only issue with K has been the same the last few years, and that's our lack of bench development. Our bench guys play with absolutely zero confidence and don't even look like ACC caliber players on the floor. They always look jittery and are constantly looking towards the bench at every whistle assuming they're going to be subbed out.

I understand Coach K's coaching with the OAD's. You simply can't teach these kids the system and style with such limited time. Even Cal admitted before his game yesterday the exact same thing. You kinda just have to let them do their own thing and manage them.

Just try to remember we played against an outstanding team and program with one of the best coaches ever. Their program basically mirrors ours. It isn't the end of the world. It sucks, but we will be back. Hopefully, with more depth.

This is exactly what I was screaming the last few minutes. No one was in foul trouble, we are a ball hawking defense. It was set up for Tre to take gambles and Zion, RJ and Cam to be jumping passing lanes.

This. I was shouting gamble for steals. Fouls to burn plus might need to go to deliberately putting them on the free throw line.

Put in Goldwire and go full court press. Also, why go with Barrett for the last shot, give the ball to your most efficient player (Zion) and see what happens. Very disappointed in the decision making in the last few minutes. You have fouls to give, don't give them the opportunity to run a play. Just foul and force them to attempt a bad shot.
