This is the second game, Auburn some 6 years ago and yesterday vs. Tenn., where trying an almost impossibly long field goal has resulted in a loss.

Why on Earth did Saban leave 20 Seconds on the clock after the FG attempt. He not only did not run out the clock up to the kick but could have taken a delay of game penalty to run out the clock????

Well, one thing we know is that Saban plays to win and keeps trying to win until the clock hits 0:00. That aggression has cost him 2 games in 6 years. In the balance, I think most of us could live with that.

Even though they were in field goal range, it was on the edge of field-goal range. They were trying to pick up more yards to make it a shorter field-goal at least. But they went with pass plays. If I recall correctly they play on third down was an incomplete pass so the clock stopped. I’m sure had the pass been complete they would’ve allowed the clock to run down before kicking a field goal. That’s if Tennessee didn’t call a time out to stop the clock anyway, which Heupel might very well done because he’s that confident in his offense.
