What will the record have to be for Stoops to be fired?

Nope, maybe if 1-10 but still unlikely. The 12 million buy out isn't something this athletic dept will just happily swallow for FoOTBALL.

I believe there is little chance Stoops is gone this year. We have some blue Lens going on here because if we fire Stoops folks think the red carpet will get laid out for these names that absurd. We are KY and have been the graveyard for careers for most coaches who ever steward this program. Stoops likely will learn on the job and hopefully we will slowly improve. I don't like it but time we live in reality land. I'm embarrassed as an alumni but see no other path.

Yep, he's not going anywhere no matter what happens this year. The buyout financially prevents it. UNLESS things get so personally ugly that he wants to leave and negotiates that buyout. Possible but that would not be very encouraging in trying to lure a new coach.
Short version, Mitch made his deal and Stoops will be here at least through next year. Who knows, that may work out if things magically click in 2017.

Barnhart is a cheapskate (except when throwing out ridiculous contracts and extentions) and will refuse to pay that much of a buyout. He also won't want to look like he was wrong and will hopefully go down with the ship if he refuses to fire Stoops. He has to be forced to hire/fire people and make improvements to the money making sports. You know he wouldn't have thrown a dime out to football if he didn't have to for him to get a coach, but he can make the volleyball and rifle teams look good.

2-10

Problem is who comes? Briles is not the guy. Sorry. Brohm? Maybe until Petrino leaves. Houston guy isn't coming

Considering a UK savior just isn't out there, we may need to only win 1 game. I just don't see changes being made, and I hope we are all laughing at these assertions together at year end while celebrating our 7th

4 or less wins and I guarantee he is gone. Attendance will plummet big time. People will start to boycott like they did against Joker.

5 wins or more and he stays for another year or more.

There's only one stat that matters for Stoop's survival, and it's actual (not reported) attendance. If his record is 4-8 or 2-10 and the crowds are decent, we'll keep him to avoid the $18 million check. If the crowds start to look like Joker's final games, he'll be gone, no matter the record. As painful as giving away $18 million is, it's cheaper than the long term damage of an empty stadium....

I'm pulling for us to win every game. But at this point I want him to go 2-10. The fans won't return next year and it will show an ultimate regression. Stoops has lost the program and the fans.

Barnhardt will keep Stoops NO MATTER WHAT!!

Pressure from fans will only make Barnhardt MORE determined to stick with Stoops.

Personally, I think that Stoops would need to win 5 games to get a 5th year at UK and THAT would be a gift IMO...

His buyout isn't 18 million, where do you guys get this nonsense from?
Think he's including the guaranteed money to the assistant coaches in that figure. IMO he stays with four wins or better, three becomes iffy, and a 2-10 season gets him canned for sure.

12 mil for Stoops another nearly 6 mil for the assistants. I think actual number was 17.7 mil round it to 18 mil.

I think you're exactly right. He will need back to back years of regression before its even considered imo

Just a hunch because I've paid attention to the things MB has said.

Here's just two articles I found rather quickly that can give you a small glimpse of Mitch's position and mindset on "change" Judge for yourself.

What AD is gonna come out and **** on his coach? That never happens anywhere. Have youe ever heard of the dreaded vote of confidence? http://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...all-coach-hot-seat-dreaded-vote-of-confidence

Look I want him gone yesterday just don't see it happening. Mitch isn't known for a quick trigger.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't "wheel and deal" Mitch stick us with a $6M buyout on BCG? $12M in FB is equivalent considering FB brings in the revenue. I say, No Bowl, No return for Stoops. And Mitch needs to take a vacation while somebody with a football background hires the new coach.

I think 3-9 or worse he is gone myself.
Short of ncaa violations I don't see any scenario where stoops is not back...definitely will be back next year probably will be back the year after.

Would not surprise me to see barnhart extend him another year as a show of support.

Its not just stoops, you can't let barnhart make another fb hire. Period, end of story.

  • 2-10 and he is fired the day or two after the UL game. Mitch will have no choice in the matter and the $18 million buyout will be raised fairly quickly. If you think he would be retained after a 2-10 season when the team was predicted to be bowling just because of an insane buyout then you're crazy. The school stands to lose way more than that buyout if they retain him after a season like that.

  • 3-9 would be almost assured that Mitch will have to seriously explore other coaching options. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for this team to lose 9 games in Stoops 4th season with how he has recruited, especially when the schedule had winnable home games against Southern Miss, New Mexico State, Austin Peay, and Vanderbilt and favorable matchups (talent-wise) against Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Missouri. The talent and the schedule is set up for this team to win at least 6 games.

  • 4-8 would leave it as a possibility depending on how bad/embarrassing the losses were, but it is 60/40 that he will be back.

  • 5-7 or better and Stoops is 100% retained for his 5th season, but will be forced to fire D.J. Eliot. Someone will have to be the sacrificial lamb here.

Either way, with how bad the defense has been, there is no way we win more than 4 games. I can't see us winning against USC, Mizzou, and MSU with how bad we've played. Even if we beat Vandy and Austin Peay, that still only puts us at 3 wins and there is no way we are beating Bama, UT, UGa, and UL.

I wonder how we'll put together that $18 million that we dont have to put together.
