We all like to be couch coaches. It's fun. So what gameplan you think we should run if Zion doesn't play the next few games against Syracuse and Va Tech?

Zone defense to start with. Offensively - Cuse - its the tried and tested big at the top of the key and work from there..we didnt do that enough the last time we played them. We need more players cutting after they pass to disrupt their zone. VaTech, I havent really seen them play but they lost their primary PG so pressure on the ball ala UL game could work quite well. And...dont shooting 30+ 3's in either game

I'd like to see them use RJ in the middle against that Syracuse zone...we need the ball to get inside that zone every once in awhile...instead of just making endless passes around the perimeter, and then putting up a 3 at the end of the shot clock.
Anyway we slice it, we're going to have to make a few perimeter shots.
And on defense, mix in a little zone here and there, and also press them occasionally to keep them a little off balance.

SPRINT back and get in some zone variations but pick up at half court, very little full court pressure. Transition defense was horrendous last game.

I want to see RJ, Tre, and Cam all attack the basket to try and get the Cuse into foul trouble. This is especially so for RJ who is difficult to handle when he’s driving.

I want to see AOC and Jack take and make UNCONTESTED threes (they will get some) and make enough that Cuse starts extending their zone to contest. At which point I want to see Bolden taking advantage of in the lane lobs from RJ and Tre penetration.

Loved what I saw from Javin last game keep that up.

^This. Based on not having Zion, get RJ in the middle of the zone and let him work. They struggled when we played zone and they also have trouble with pressure "D".
Would also like to see Goldwire on the pressure side, and Alex on offense. Alex played well the last game, and if he does it again, hopefully "K" will run something to get more involved.
Foul trouble will be big in this one.
Go Duke!

Yeah, I believe we've got to change a few things 'cause I don't thing hoisting up fifty 3's is going to work (unless of course we hit 20 of 'em). Anyway, if anyone can figure it out it's Coach K, he ain't the GOAT for nothin'. And no matter what offensive or defensive plan, it comes down to execution...and the players have to respond in that area.

Our ball movement has been bad. I think our shooting is a little better than we’ve shown lately, and I think it will improve if we pass the ball around. Which also is inside out as well.

Defensively, may have to soften up our man to man a little. Zion is a great luxury to have waiting if your man beats you off the dribble.

This parts easier said than done, but whoever plays, play believing you are good.

I'd zone Cuse. Were gonna need Alex and Jack to step up. Syracuse destroyed both of them whenever they were switched out on Battle or Howard.
They just don't have the foot-speed to guard 25 feet out. We REALLY need Alex's zone-offense tomorrow, we need to hide him on D.

As far as offense against the zone, I'd throw RJ at the foul line and pray he makes the right decision with the ball, we don't have anyone else talented/strong enough to play there.

I actually like the idea of maybe a little Robinson mixed in there....at least for the Syracuse game.
I've been thinking for awhile we should see what Robinson can do for us. This would be e ideal game for him to get some playing time vs Cuse's zone defense. We can't give up on Alex and Jack, but give Robinson a chance.

I don't know if anyone remembers but Robinson did play 90 seconds in the 1st half against Cuse. He was a -6 lol and picked up a foul, they literally attacked him on all 3 possessions and he couldn't hang.

I agree though, I think we should give him a shot tomorrow. As long as we don't try to pressure out 30 feet, he can probably stay on the floor for a few minutes.

Play Baker. I don't see him staying at Duke for 5 years.

That will no be fair to Baker. He has the right to play his full elegible four years. He would not have made any difference in our record this year. Not that I don't think he's a very good player but I think he would rather four full years instead of spotted plays this year. I do see him playing 4 - 5 years. He's going to be a major player before he leaves and I think in the next couple of years this type of player will be not only recruited by Duke but by every program. When I sam this type player I don't mean white guys . I mean players of this caliber whether they are white, black, hispanic, European , Asian, or South Americans and Australialions. Why don't you see him as Duke 4 or 5 years. One more thing if he had played this year we really dont know what he could have done . I'm excited we will have a player of his talent for 4 years. OFC

My comment was simply that 5 years is a long time to be in college and he may decide to go pro after 4 years. I did not mean that he would leave due to unhappiness. I should have explained myself.

All great ideas. Personally, I think we should just score more points.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

I would not mind seeing K try a few different strategies to see what works. Maybe start out with a zone and throw in the 2-2-1 press every once in a while. Play a deeper bench and try 2-3 different players at the FT line.

Defensively I'd got to 3/4 court pressure. Slow the opponent down some.
Offensively, I'd bench anyone who shot outside the three-point line with more than 6 seconds on the shot clot. This is a driving and slashing team, not a three-point team.

Hate to say this but hope Justin Robinson (VT’s all ACC PG) isn’t back yet. Think that we can beat them without Zion if Barrett or Reddish can keep Alexander-Walker and Blackshear JR from both going off. Sort of assuming that Blackshear JR will get his without Zion to help with our low post defense so need RJ and Cam (and Tre helping over to trap) to shut down Alexander-Walker.

Defensively we should dial back the pressure to start off the game. Play our own version of a pack line defense because Syracuse is not a good shooting team. Then we can bring in Goldwire and press them to change up the pace. Keep them off balance. We can't run our normal defense without Zion. Let Javin and Marques start the game off and we go big defensively. Kind of like we played defense in 2010. Keep everything in front of us. I'm just not a huge fan of the zone unless we play that scrambling type zone that we played against Louisville.

Offensively Cam and RJ have to takeover while the others take advantage of their opportunities when they get them. I wish Jack was giving us something but he's a shell of himself at this point.

Intriguing, but I think that would do more harm than good at this point in the season... it would basically be a vote of no confidence in AOC and White
Yes, exactly why I hope it happens. AOC and Jack basically have given us nothing for about 10 games. Zero reason to have confidence in them.
