It looked like we would possibly turn it around in the early 80's with the Jim Stack teams going to the NIT, and picking up recruits like Paul Schultz, Chris Berg, Dan Ivankovich, Jeff Grose and Shon Morris. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be then.
