Learned a long time ago that using the old standard nail clippers just didn't do my toes justice. After some trial and error, have locked into the following. The first and third clippers go for $80 each but have found them on Amazon for about half of that---(new of course only.) The middle ones go for a bit higher but are definitely worth it.
Use this for the two smallest toes on each foot. Clean straight clip, doesn't bite the skin.
Use these for the next two toes, nice rounded edge and has the power to clip clean in one snip:
And these are for the big toe. Took a while to find one with enough torque to punch through the thicker nail:
