What's the deal with the SEC this year??

The Eastern division is a hot mess. We pretty much knew that even before the season started, although I expected bigger things out of Tennessee. But other than Alabama, I'm not even sure anybody in the West is all that good either. Could be the worst Bowl season in years for the conference.

You couldn't be more wrong about the bowl season. The conference will show out.

The bowl eligible SEC teams that struggled early are seeing much improved play as of late. Which conference are you expecting to whip the SEC teams in bowl games? Definitely not the ACC - easily the most overrated conference in college football this year

We'll see. Most seasons I'm suspicious of any perceived strength of the B1G carrying over into Bowl season but I think it's probably the best conference this season. And while I generally agree about the ACC, I have no confidence the SEC teams will handle them in the way we usually expect. Just not seeing it this year.

Outside of Bama maybe there is just more parity from top to bottom in the SEC. Maybe the weaker teams from years past are finally catching up. So those guaranteed wind are no longer sure things.

You can also contribute some to the playoffs. Top notch recruits may not think they have to be in the SEC to win a national championship so they are going else where.

East is in transition mode, 3 new head coaches and coaching staffs this year, the 2 elder head coaches in the East have been at their schools 4 years the other 2 have been at their schools 3 and 2 years. Out of all those coaches only 3 had head coaching experience and 1 of those was fired.

The West has Bama and of the rest of them they might win the East and they might now, Coach O was awful at OM, Sumlin is leading A&M to another late season trainwreck, Mullins rode Dak and hasn't showed much without him, Freeze and Gus are high school coaches who rode the coattails of outstanding players to get to the college level, Belima at Arkansas is the number 2 coach in the west but can't recruit with the 2 or 3 programs buying players every year. Depending on who LSU hires, Bama will remain on top for awhile, but the East may start pulling ahead of the rest of the west teams, maybe as early as next year.

As far as the SEC showing out in the bowl games and stopping the talk of a declining conference, lets hope we don't get matched up with the Big10 often, 4-5 teams would seal club the number 2 team in the SEC. Teams in the playoff hunt from the Big10 are Michigan, tOUS, and Wisconsin, any of those 3 will beat the number 2 SEC team whoever it is pretty bad, then Nebraska, PSU and Minnosota would be a handful for any team in the SEC other than Bama.

Removing Alabama from this equation...I keep hearing how bad the East is vs. the West and I'm not sure there is any difference in each division outside of the obvious...Alabama.

- Texas AM was the hot team and is spiraling down the stretch and barely beats Tenn at home
- LSU may be 2nd best team in the West...UF squarely goes on the road and beats them w/o quite a few starters out for the game.
- Vandy just curb stomped Ole Miss...and barely lost to Auburn
- UGA beats Auburn who may also be 2nd best team in West

I know I could be a similar list of why West is better than East (Arky hammering UF, Ole Miss hammering UGA, etc...) but in the end, I think it truly is Alabama pretty much parity in the rest of SEC. UT has to be kicking themselves for losing 3 games in this season of a down SEC. With the recruiting classes they have put together...they should have done better for sure.

I don't think it's anyone in the sec is much worse than normal. It's just you don't have thebteams lined up like a stair case. Other than Bama, there isn't much difference between everyone else. The sec didn't have a bad non conference year.

The problem is everyone is beating up on each other. So we don't have teams rated one through 14. It's more like 1, 2abcd, 5abcdef, mizzu

Lack of veteran qb's this year hurt the SEC. Next year the SEC will be better but so will UK. We got the best running back in the league next year. 12 touchdown and 1000 yards.

I agree with this except I'm not sold on the big ten being that good (it's better than recent years but we will see when they play bowl games). I believe the East will be stronger from top to bottom than the West very soon, maybe next year.

It's all about coaching. Compare the coaches now to the coaches 5-10 years ago in the SEC. Now look up the road to the Big Ten where you see guys like Urban, Harbaugh and Franklin.

Careful what you wish for. Remember last year when Clemson - South Carolina, Kentucky - louisville, Florida - Florida state, Georgia - Georgia tech, all happened on the same weekend.

Thank God Georgia walloped 3-9 tech 13 to 7 or we would have been shutout. Looking like it could happen again next weekend.

I'll wait and see how we do in the bowl games. The SEC chokes in bowl games quite often, no matter how they dominated all year.

SEC has 10 teams bowl eligible with Vandy and Ole Miss at 5-6.
