Very difficult question...since every school has different resources. Is it fair to judge Day as better than Fleck with the difference in school financial support? That said....
Top group.....Day, Lanning, Franklin, Fleck, Bielema, Rhule, Schiano,
Middle group...Fickell, Riley, Cignette, Moore, Ferentz, Braun
Bottom group...Locksley
To early to tell group...Fischer, Foster, Odom, Smith

Extra Credit....if CJF decided to leave, what B1G coach would you be happy with?
I say...Lanning, Rhule, Fleck, Cignetti, Fickell

Too early to tell give the changeover and addition of coaches in the B1G in 2024.

And why did you post this identical question over on the old Tom Board? That seems weird to me.

He is somewhere between 1 and 18 in the Big Ten.

So, he's got that going for him.

#3 - Currently (behind Day, Lanning). I would have put Riley ahead but his star has waned; USC shouldn't take *this* long to turn around. Lots of others are good coaches but don't have the horses (Fickell, Rhule, Fleck, Bielema, Schiano).

Really over broad question.

Franklin's job? meaning the PSU job and all that comes with it (stadium atmosphere, the players, fan base, etc.)? Top 3.

National Perception of James as a coach (as an individual/on the field results)? Probably not top 3.

As a rep for the university and program, including off field conduct of players and team perception? Top 3.

James as an individual coach (meaning decision making/team preparation) IMO? somewhere between 5 and 9.

You could make a claim for Day, Lanning or Franklin depending on how you choose to judge them. There's no right or wrong answer. They're all excellent coaches.

Wisconsin has regressed with Fickell in charge.

I usually do. They are two separate and distinct boards/websites. Do you think every person checks out both boards or just stays with one. Do a poll.

Matt Rhule - the guy with an overall losing record of 70-83 over 12 years as a head football coach?

#7, behind all of (listed by their school, in alphabetical order) Bielema, Ferentz, Fleck, Day, Schiano and Fickell.

His value to PSU right now is high. I’m not sure that I’d say Day or Lanning would be upgrades for PSU right now. I don’t know anything about how to run something like PSU football, but it looks like he’s getting a lot done and he finally broke thru and is getting stuff done to make the program better. He got to final four. They could have made the finals. Competitive in every game. Kept top players for another year. Added good players in portal. Recruiting well. Great staff. Stadium and facility upgrades. An AD and President who seem to support him. He seems to have enough resources to put things together and produce a quality product. There’s a real positive feel right now. I believe that in reality, this team has more quality players than recognized by rating services. It’s been enjoyable and I’m happy for him because I think he works hard and he deserves this. His job isn’t easy.
