Where was the pass interference?

If there's a key play to the game, it was this. Instead of a stop, SIU proceeds to march down the field for a TD.

I did not see ANY contact at all before the ball arrived. Did you?

He grabbed his jersey a little. It was super ticky tack, but Heard has to learn that grabbing and pulling the jersey is far more likely to draw a flag than greater contact.

There was enough of a hold to keep him from turning around. If he didn’t hold, the guy would have caught it anyway.

It wasn't PI, but what's the difference. The game didn't hinge on that single play. NU was outplayed in this game, on both sides of the ball. That's the hard reality of it: SIU was the better team.

The game was tied at that point, and it would've been a stop. Instead, SIU got a second chance with the ball at midfield and, with some wind in their sails, marched down and scored a TD. I think that play made ALL the difference.

Now, should Northwestern have even been in that position to be tied with SIU at that point? Believe me, I'm not trying to let the coaches off the hook.

Thanks for helping to prove my point. Hit with a bad call, the better team in this case would stiffen and not allow the opponent to "march down and score a TD." That's certainly a reasonable expectation of NU vs. SIU.

Conversely, the better team in this case takes advantage of a break to go on to score.

There's just no excuse.

NU stiffened up after the turnover at the end of the half and forced a missed field goal. When the other team gets SO MANY breaks, though, they're bound to convert something. NU gave up enough chances on their own without the refs helping.

And appeared to be better coached as well.
