Good for David Evans and Utah Valley. With Penn states absurd depth and with how even the unheralded backups progress and grow, Utah Valley may establish quite the pipeline of PSU room guys who become national qualifiers, and more. I'm not sure about a guy like Cochran as far as his eligibility goes but I could see him be a blood round or low AA at heavy weight if he ever transferred. Took out slav and that Michigan st heavy when he was a backup 197.

I have no clue but I would expect him to AA or at least make the blood round if he were. I'm bullish on him.

True, but I remember the announcer saying he wrestled Slavikouski who weighted 240 something. Giving up 25% BW and beating an AA is pretty impressive.
I know 285 is filled w/ a huge range of body weights, but percentage wise that's a 157 wresting @ 197.
Beating an AA HWT while giving up weight is no small feat. True enough.
That by itself doesn't make him starter material at PSU. Lots of guys have won one-offs. Can he do it for a full season -- and especially at HWT, where the beatings are more significant and have cumulative effect into March? No evidence to support that.
Claiming he'd be the starter based on that win means that Slavikouski would've beaten Mirasola. I'm not buying that. If there are other reasons, fine, but we haven't heard them yet.
BTW, Slavikouski is the guy who lost to Steveson by first-period stall DQ at nationals. He is not an offense-oriented opponent.
I remember back in the day, penn st had a back up semi starter at 197 moved up to hwt and proceeded to shock the world.
And ever since, every 197 backup has been Cassar.
Which cheapens Cassar's accomplishment.
I'm not saying he will be the starter, but I think anybody that's in that room has a shot at surprising people.
And if the rumors of a significant bulk job are true...
