With Levi Haines having an amazing season so far (which obviously is not over), and with a week off before NCAAs, who do posters think had the greatest true freshmen wrestling seasons?

Nico Megaludis (2nd AA), Zain Retherford (5th AA), & Quentin Wright (6th AA) have to be up there as true Freshmen.

Jim Martin, DT, Nolf, Nickal, & Ruth all redshirted.

I'm sure I've missed someone!

Kyle Dake for starters (not a PSU guy obviously). I believe Kolat was a runner-up his true freshman season if I am not mistaken. Zain had a fantastic TRFR season finishing fifth and beating Logan Steiber.

91-92 John Hughes was 21-9-2 in his freshman year. 3 at the conference, DNP at nationals.
92-93, in addition to Kolat, Kerry McCoy was 19-17, 6th at conference and DNP at nationals won it all the next year
94-95 Glenn Pritzlaff was 27-12, 6th at conf, DNP at nationals
95-96 Jason Betz was 18-19, 6th at conf and DNP at nationals
96-97 Jeremy Hunter was 29-9, 3rd at conference and DNP at nationals
97-98 JaMarr Billman was 35-6, 3rd at conference and 5th at nationals
98-99 Nate Parker was 15-12, nothing at conference and DNP at nationals Billman was 21-0 but there is no formal record of him at conf/nationals
99-2000 Scott Moore was 28-6, 7th at conference and DNP at nationals, Nate Wachter was 14-21 and DNP at nationals
Right about now there seems to be a real move to 2nd year freshman in the records.......a lot of them vs history ( unscientific, just my perception )
02-03 Nate Galloway was 30-15, 7th at conference and no record at nationals
06-07 Bubba Jenkins was 22-12, 6th at conference and DNP at nationals, Dave Rella was 21-13 and 8th at conference
07-08 Garrett Scott was 21-7, 7th at conference and DNP at nationals
08-09 Quentin Wright 33-13, 2nd at conference and 6th at nationals
10-11 Andrew Alton was 30-10, 5th at conference and DNP at nationals
11-12 in addition to Nico, Morgan MacIntosh was 18-10, 5th at conference and DNP at nationals
13-14 Zain was 33-3, 2nd at conference and 5th at nationals
16-17 Hall, nuff said. Suriano was 16-3 f'in mat at Okie State
17-18 Nick Lee 33-7, 3rd at conference and 5th overall

club page, very helpful

There was very little activity in the 80's with first year freshman who did anything. It is amazing to see greats like Jeremy Hinder to well at conference and DNP at nationals. Same with Bubba. Fascinating to go back and see all the matches kids used to wrestle, the PA state schools who were very very competitive and school who no longer support the sport.
