Who from the current staff will be kept by the new HC?

I know a lot depends on the next HC and his background, but here are my opinions.

Would seem smart: Smith, Howle, & Barnes. I can't imagine any other position coaches would make the cut.

Do we keep him because of the contract: Jim Knowles? He's only in year 1 of 10.5 million.

Toss-ups: Connor maybe back to support staff because he's an alumni. Poindexter is a good developer. Traut's squad has struggled this year but he did rebuild that room. Drayton can probably go anywhere if he wants based on his history.

Yikes: Hagans seems like a good guy, but that WR needs completely demoed and rebuilt by someone else. Kotelnicky on't cut it unless he and Grunk go on a tear to end the season.

Terry Smith is probably the only safe one. No way does a new coach come in and keep any coordinators. Knowles will be bought out or demoted. Kotelnicki , Hagans, etc were probably gone regardless if JF stayed or not

Smith is now in at the start of his job audition. Say he finishes 7-5 and then wins a minor bowl. He might get hired as head coach at a place like Boston College, NC State, etc. We can't assume he will stay at Penn State as an assistant. Of course, if he finishes 4-8 the new coach may toss him.

There's no one on the current staff that cannot be upgraded. Put no restrictions on the new guy. Allow him to can the entire staff if he wants or select a few to stay. Either way it's his call and not Kraft's

Pretty good jobs going to be open after this year. I actually believe that PSU firing Franklin is giving other schools the balls to get rid of their people. Lot of fancy jobs going to be open sooner than later.

He may have the same "must seek employment" clause in his contract that CJF had. I don't think he'll be around next year, but I don't think PSU is going to pay the entire bill either.

No new coach of worth will have supporting staff dictated to him. He may choose to keep someone but won’t start out by having an AD or someone else dictate help!
