Beer, barbecue, sodas and all the other crap served at sporting events and fast food places might be a factor. I would guess that most of the top states on this list are in the south.

Yep, not sure about right now but Louisiana usually holds that distinction of #1.
They've got some wide bodies down yonder.

CT- I'm sure you are right about the south. My family and I went to NY and the only good food we ate was Carmine's Italian. It was VERY good but there wasn't another restaurant that I would say made an impression. It was all just Ok food. After staying there a week we came away saying that no wonder there aren't many fat people in the Northeast, because if I had to eat that everyday you wouldn't over eat because it isn't very good. :D and you do walk every where in NY at least we did a bunch every day.

New Yorkers would freak out if they had some good ole pan fried chicken and mashed potatoes and white gravy or biscuits and gravy, maybe a fried bologna sandwhich. They don't know how to cook bacon. They do know Italian but that was about it for us that we thought was good.

I did get to go to my first Yankee game and I loved that. Of course we lost the game and I did get to see A-Rod strike out a couple of times!:mad: Times square was a zoo and where we stayed. I did get on TV on Fox News(in my OU shirt) and happened to be there when KC and the Sunshine band was doing a concert. They were awesome by the way!

I can honestly say not me for the first time in many years. I;'ve dropped 58 lbs in the past 4 years. I still have a bigger gut than I'd like but I don't care as I've dropped more weight than I ever imagined I could. I'm down to about 190 now and don't want to go any lower.

Yep, I miss the 32 inch waist line I had for well, all my life until recently.
Sucks to get older.

Usually the states that don't rank high in those stats are the states with better weather as well. Sorry but people don't get out and active when them temps are in the 100's, you tend to stay inside.

Actually, I'm thinking the opposite. Those in cold weather are the ones that just sit around all the time. I traveled all through the midwest for quite a few years and I'm telling you now, from Chicago to Minneapolis and all points in between, folks are big time over weight. Wisconsin, Iowa and even Nebraska.

During snow storms, more people die of shoveling snow than are shot in south Chicago and that's saying something. ;)

I do not believe that there are more deaths in south Chicago from shoveling snow than from gunshots.
The rankings of obesity in this country list southern states at the top. There are fat people everywhere, and maybe there are more fat people in the north overall, but a larger percentage of the population of each southern state is obese. Weather works two ways....people don't like hot or cold extremes. That's why many choose to do their walking in large shopping malls with a controlled climate.

Hey, we used to be No. 2, so we're on a thin binge.

On a serious note, Oklahoma is No. 1 in diabetes, I think I read in some medical journal. That goes right along with being somewhat beyond the norm in body configuration ... okay, let's be outspoken: we're fat, obese, stout, full-figured, corpulent, gross, fleshy, plump, portly, chubby, rotund, paunchy, potbellied, flabby, well-upholstered, broad in the beam, I could go on for pages. It's the horrible food we consume that accounts for it--most of it in the form of animal flesh.

With diabetes, you may lose your feet or even legs or hands, but, hey, they're doing wonders with artificial limbs these days.

I can honestly say not me for the first time in many years. I;'ve dropped 58 lbs in the past 4 years. I still have a bigger gut than I'd like but I don't care as I've dropped more weight than I ever imagined I could. I'm down to about 190 now and don't want to go any lower.
WNAS - How do you feel you have dropped this amount of weight over the last 4 years. I would like/need to lose about 25 lbs. but it is really hard to get the weight off for me now for some reason (old age, slow metabolism) I used to just jog for about a month and the weight would come right back off and I could get right back into good shape easily in a few weeks. Now, I think I could go on an air diet and still gain 5 lbs over a weekend if I don't excercise for just a couple of days. My metabolism has really slowed in the last 3 years.

Think treadmill.
Get you some of your favorite music flowing through earbuds into your noggin. Slow at first, then speed up incrementally. I don't incline it...it hurts my bad back.
At least that's worked for me getting rid of that belt line fat, and it will train your abs to stay tighter all the time. Obviously good for calves and quads.

I still can't run due to two different injuries on my left leg & left foot. Too much stress on the foot/joints/bones etc. During the spring, summer and early fall, I walk alot, up to 10 miles a day about once a week. (work related) But overall I do feel much better. I'm not as gassed or tired as I used to be.
