Carter Starroci was the clear winner until...Wyatt Hendrickson beat Gable Steveson. Now...I am not sure. How about you?

I think it should be Carter, but I voted for Hendrickson. I think Wyatt will win mostly because of the drama his win created and PSU gets so many Hodges it may prevent votes for "another PSU guy."

Based on Hodge criteria, shouldn’t it be Mesenbrink?

  1. Record
  2. Dominance/Bonus-Point Percentage
  3. Quality of Competition
  4. Sportsmanship

I don’t think it’s that simple with Hendrickson beating Steveson.

Heading into Philly, MM & WH were both 22-0. MM had a 94% bonus rate with zero pins and WH had an 85% bonus rate with 10 pins.

I think MM added two more techs while WH added three more pins. Does Dominance/Bonus-Point Percentage just mean bonus % or is Dominance weighted to give sort out pins, techs, & majors? If it does weigh pins higher, WH could have the edge. 5tarocci had six pins heading into the tourney.

Personally I know nothing about comparing the relative strength of competition between the two and will let numbers folks sort that out.

Then there is the unmeasurable Sportsmanship component. I suppose every voter will have their own definition of sportsmanship.

No. You are officially damned for posterity and branded a fool amongst your peers. Which is to say, I have no way of doing that...

Which is @lionlover's way of saying that when he created the poll, he didn't set it up so that you could edit your selection.

I should be able to go in and modify the settings, so that folks can edit their selections after they vote. However, @Jim from Spicewood, I don't have the ability to go in and change a person's vote -- you'll have to go in and do that after I edit the settings.

Update: I was able to edit the settings so that folks can change their vote.

I didn't vote but I would choose Carter #1, Wyatt #2 and Mitch #3. My reasoning doesn't follow the Criteria, which would be Mitchell I believe.
Carter is a 5 time National Champ and would walk away with 0 Hodge wins. I know it isn't supposed to be a "Career" award but damn he needs
a Hodge. Yes, Wyatt's win was awesome, but so was Matt Ramos over Spencer Lee, Cassar over Gable, Cenzo over Isiah, on and on.

As far as sportsmanship goes, I see a much more cerebral, softer side of Carter this year. Still as confident as ever but he took his celebrity this year to promote wresting and not just promoting himself (line them up and I'll kill them all type comments) I'm sure I'm letting my Penn State bias enter in to my argument because I haven't watched Wyatt wrestle every match.

WTH didn't you vote? It's really not that hard to figure out.

I hope you are just talking about this poll…
and I didn’t miss the ACTUAL FAN VOTE…
When is that? I remember getting word in this forum in previous years.

The Fan Vote has not yet started. I'm sure it will be posted on this board once it starts.

FWIW, I believe the fan vote started on March 26th last year.

I am.

I just think it's kinda dumb to spend a lot of time explaining your thought process, when you haven't taken a quick second to make a one click selection. @BigBopper85

So I cast my vote. But if you thought a vote on a Penn State message board would give you anything but Carter or Mitchell as the winner you are not being honest with yourself. If I cast my vote for who I think will win it would be Hendrickson. Who do think should win is Carter.

go vote for the Hodge. I’d vote for Carter so PSU fans don split the vote. The voters are going to pick between Carter and Hendrickson. I personally think Mitchell is probably the most deserving but he isn’t going to win so pick Carter lol. It’s your vote though do what you want.

Were the Hodge voters biased or were the PSU wrestling fans too biased?

Is Carter victim of PSU envy? Your thoughts...
