Who Would You Hire As The New OC?

Bobby Petrino. Give him $5.5 million. Stoops not allowed to have communication with the offensive booth. Cut the cords to his headset. Put in a jammer, block that signal. Stoops gets no say in the offense.
If I had to pick it would be Liam. But if his wife ain’t gonna come with him this time like it was last time I doubt he’s interested.
I'm with SaltyCat. Bobby Petrino! Id like to score ALOT and he is still a bad mofo on offense.
He wouldn’t last two weeks here. Have you noticed the difference in Arkansas girls and Kentucky girls? He’d wreck his house shoes.

Justin Frye would be my choice. Give him control of the offense and he would help greatly with the OL.
I don't know why anyone would risk it with Coen. Guarantee he will bail after a year again if he shows signs of success and a job in the NFL opens up. Also he has no one the caliber of Levis on the roster as of yet. How will he do with a lesser qb? I'd rather go after someone that doesn't want to be in the NFL and might stay for more than a year.
I hear what you are saying and somewhat agree. But the truth is, the risk of a coordinator bolting is always going to be something we have to deal with if they have the kind of success we want, unless we can find someone with strong UK ties who can deliver the same level of success. I am all about getting the best available man for the job. If he leaves, he leaves. You then replace him with the next best available man for the job. I'll always take a high performer who excels and leaves after a year or two over a mediocre guy who is willing to hang around for 10 years.
He didn't have anyone of Levis caliber on the roster when he came the first time. He brought us Levis.
No guarantee that happens again. I could see a lot of negative recruiting with how bad our offensive line is and how beat up Levis got this year. He may have to make due with what we have. I just prefer to not look into the NFL ranks for an assistant. Seems like most every pro sport coach wants to stay in the pros or get back there if they leave.
Plus I am not that enamored with the pro style offense. I'd rather run an uptempo offense like UT. Tough to defend and might negate some of the talent differential we face. I especially hate milking the clock and checking to the sideline all the time. Probably doesn't matter who we get. As long as Stoops is in charge, we will be stuck running a ball control offense.
At this point, why would he leaves SC? He's OC for a guy for a guy who believes in a high energy, high scoring offense to OC for a guy would control his every move.
This is another thing people are forgetting. Stoops is getting a reputation of being difficult to work for. Going to be tough to pull any potential coaching talent.
If I’m considering Stoops football philosophy of offense helping the defense stay fresh then I’d go with someone that has option roots.
A lot of speed option/RPO concepts with wide WR splits to spread the field…with passing/route trees designed to take advantage of the full width of the field splits and hit quick slants, jailbreak screens, TE seams, hitches, and outs, WR fades and skinny post (no more inside the 5 fades…twirl/pigtail routes or TE drags and speed outs to attack the front pylon.
Super mobile QB that can still make the throws…Think manzeil, Levis, Tebow, Dart, Matt corral, hooker, bridgewater etc. Not triple option can’t throw Navy football or Lynn Bowden arm.
You can still extend drives and control the ball when you emphasize short quick routes as an extension of the run game. Super wide splits helps create the space to where the quick stuff is always open for 3 yards at a time unless the press and then you either hit them over the top or run the DBs off (blocking via route running bc they have to turn their backs) and hit them w speed option, sweep, quick pitch, delayed speed option to fake the pass similar to QB draw, HB passes in the flats

Like your offensive philosophy except with an uptempo theme. Don't have to mimic Tennessee's uptempo just move quicker and make the defense have to react quicker. Make the opponent have to defend the entire width of the field with the elite pass receivers we have in Key and Brown. When the db's press, try to keep them honest by going deep. Would love for Crowdus to improve and join these 2 now that Magwood is transferring. Gives our tight ends (Dingle and Kattus) room to operate in the middle of the field. Who are the super mobile qbs in the portal that you think could run this type of offense? Don't think Van Dyke or McNamarra are very mobile. Don't know enough about Luke Altmyer from Ole Miss but he has run the offense that we need, IMHO, to run.
My chief concern is Stoops. He is so conservative when we have a 1 point lead in the 2nd half it is milk the clock, 3 running plays, punt, and turn it over to our defense. He never seems to deviate! Playing not to lose instead of playing to win. Running uptempo will not only attract offensive recruits but defensive recruits who know they will get playing time as defensive substitutions will be necessary to complement this offense. We now have depth at most defensive positions which will allow us to run an uptempo offense as we can rotate defensive players to keep them fresh.
Even more important than the OC hire is Stoops making a change in his philosophy. Yes, you must still run the ball, but use the pass to set up the run. Take advantage of the athletes you now have. I am afraid that recruiting will hit the skids if he does not change as skilled players will not want to come to UK. BTW, my choice, from an outsider's perspective, for OC is Brian Hartline. Young, known to WR and QB future recruits, and instrumental in Ohio States offensive success. Only drawback is he has not been an OC. May also get his brother Mike to come as QB coach!
