Who would you place in a Duke ring of honor?

The "Quinn's #" thread made me think of how many truly great players Duke has had. Aside from those already retired, who would you add if Duke decided to honor jerseys as well as hang them. The keep individual lists short, name 5 players you would honor from any era and they cannot repeat from someone else's list. I bet we will have almost 100 guys! Here's my first 5.

Kyle Singler
Jon Scheyer
Trajan Langdon
Jim Spanarkel

Singler and Scheyer definitely for me. I would say Gene Banks too. I don't know much about a lot of the older guys so Im sure there are some there that are deserving. So I guess to fill out the order I would go with Langdon and Wojo/Carawell. Again thats just in my time.

I'll add Thomas Hill to my initial mention of Nate James. He was a great unsung player during our back-to-back run.

Gene Banks - he's probably #1 on my list.
Kyle Singler - one of the all-time greats, and I think if we're being honest one of the toughest and most complete SOBs to ever put on a Duke uniform.
Jon Scheyer - here we have a national champion, a 2,000-point scorer, a guy who played out of position as a senior, and who along with Kyle was one of the faces of the Duke program during his four years here.
Nolan Smith - I know, I know....three guys from that 2010 team, but the strides Nolan made from his sophomore to junior year probably made him the most important ingredient to that 2010 team. Oh yeah, 1,900+ points, an All-American and NPOY by some outlets. He was pretty good.

Others for consideration....Thomas Hill, Carlos Boozer (go look at his 3-year numbers....kind of off the charts), Chris Duhon, Quinn Cook, Mason Plumlee, Chris Carrawell, Trajan Langdon to name a few.

Also do guys like Jah, Justise or Tyus even Jabari make it? Great ambassadors for Duke and they also put up some outrageous numbers. I'd say yes.

There is a problem with the OP's premise. There are only a handful of guys that would need to be honored. If we can't rename those already names, then we start to add players that were merely role players and are not great players.

As a result, Singler, Scheyer, Nolan, Quinn, and Elton Brand are the only players I feel are worthy. I will leave the older players to those that were around then and can comment. I can't. I feel like you either had to be just incredible to have your jersey retired, like JJ or Ferry or you have to be a national champion. I am still rather disgusted that not one person from the 2010 has a jersey retired. To me, Singler should. With out question. Now, this title team won't have any numbers retired, but if 3 guys were to stick around, they all would.

Yes. I don't know if any of these guys are truly ring of honor types, but they are all at least right on the periphery. I put Nelson on par with Carrawell, at least, and I loved Carrawell. I do believe Nelson had a better playing career than Nate James. I realize James had some injury issues in his career.

Off topic, but two other guys I loved and thought would be really good early in their careers were Ricky Price and Mike Chappell.

I admit, I was a little excited and overzealous in saying we could name 100 guys. We just won a title, give me some leeway, geez.

Either way I named the 5 you mentioned and there were others that should have been and were named. Not sure what the problem is. No one is saying Marty Clark should be up there. The point, and you vicariously mentioned it in your post, in 50 years no one is going to mention Nolan Smith if they have no reference and that is a shame. Hanging jerseys always make more of an impact than a mural in a building that is NEXT to the gym in which they play.
