The best I've seen is JamesOn Curry out of Eastern Alamance in Mebane N.C. . He averaged over 40 points per game his senior year and at one time held the N.C. high school scoring record over 3,000 career points which was broken by coby white. He commited to unc cheaterm u by hof coach roy williams. During his senior year he was arrested in one of the biggest druget bust in Alamance Co. ever. hof coach roy williams immediately turned his offer to Curry down and he ended up at Okl. St. where he ended up being drafted by the Bulls #51 overall in the second round. He played in the developmental league for a while and ended up with the Clippers and made his NBA debut in 2010. He entered his 1st game, played 3.9 seconds and was released by the Clippers setting an NBA record for the shortest stint ever in the NBA which still stands. I also saw will graves play in high school but no where near the talent of Curry. Curry did him in. He was pampered in high school and achieved celebrity status. Sad. OFC

Let me add this. Saw Curry play a few times. Once at one of his away games the student cheering section were doing their best Cameron crazies take. They were yelling JamesOn, JamesOff, JamesOn, JamesOff. It must have been working because he wasn't having a good game. At halftime his father came from the visitor side and told the students to get off his son and then went to the refs, scorers table and oppossing coach to see if they would calm the crowd. I believe he was told that as long as they weren't using profanity or being too personal there wasnt anything that could be done . Like I said he was pampered and privileged and his dad thought he should have been treated as such. At the moment I couldnt help but think when went to Cameron I could just see his daddy going up to the crazies and Coach K telling them to leave his son alone. OFC

The only high school basketball that I’ve ever watched in person was when I went to Liberty Christian School in Durham and when my nephew played basketball at Victory Christian School in Henderson Vance County.

Rodney Rogers (Hillside High School) and Tyronne Outlaw (Person H.S.)
I taught Tyronne in junior high school. He was dunking the ball with 2 hands as a 7th grader. I was told he dunked in a rec game in the 6th grade.

Alonzo Mourning.
When I was in the Navy, he used to come on base and play with us in the gym we had there. This was as a high school senior and right before he left for college. Needless to say, he schooled everybody in the gym

Shavlik Randolph, Anthony Morrow, CJ Tucker and Steph Curry.

My son’s high school teams played against all four.

His senior year they played against Steph twice losing regular season game and defeated them in state tourney. Steph not very good in that one. Scored 4 pats and fouled out.

oo good question. Rod Strickland. It was the NYC semifinals Rod's junior year. Me and my dad went. He was good but still a bit of an unknown. Ed Davender was a high school all American; he went to Kentucky and started for them in the mid 80's. Strickland absolutely DESTROYED him. He was leaving him on the floor, dribbling behind his back and laughing and pointing at the football players on the other team who were in the stands taunting him. Strickland led his team to the state championship and then transferred to Oak Hill.
Runner up: Kenny Anderson. he was incredible. Single handedly beat Malik Sealy's team.

By far, Tracy McGrady. I was playing ball at the Lakewood YMCA and he came in with a guy I played college ball with’s Cousin. I was pretty good back then, in my prime, the 16 year old McGrady and his boy Robinson didn’t miss for 6 games straight. they won every game easily. I was good friends with Rick Price and played with the guys in pickup runs, so I invited Tracy to come play in a game that night. Price, Brickey, Langdon, Wojo, Nate James were all there. McGrady showed out. He hadn’t played a game at Mt. Zion yet. This dude was crazily advanced.

I saw a number of those guys at the Charm City Classic back in the day in Baltimore. McGrady is insane. I played against Carmelo Anthony in middle school and in high school before he transferred to oak hill. He was playing at Towson Catholic. His sophomore year is when he really blew up.

It would be cool to know who guru gary -7 would say. I know from his post has stated he got to see the best high players in the country several times a year. I wonder what kind of job he has to be able to do that. With all that accessibility he has to be a sports writer who covers high-school recruiting or maybe he's on the unc cheater u staff. OFC

Lebron twice.

Saw and played against OJ Mayo many times. OJ is from Cincinnati. Was unreal in high school. Was a celebrity way too early. Banned from the NBA for drugs.
He played in Kentucky in junior high and led his tiny HS to the state tournament as a 7th grader. KY is one of the last states to only have 1 state tournament. No different classes, 16 teams.

played at the oneal school as a sophmore (or when i went there it was wallace oneal) and they had a coach back then named hargrave who played college bball with bill bradley. christ school as a junior (david joyner who is the coach now and had all three plumlees was on the same team) and pinecrest for coach capel as a senior. i had an early version of a ''helicopter'' dad who kept sending me to various schools because he heard about this coach or that team. moved down to nc in the middle of my freshman year. went to lake braddock up there then finished my year at pinecrest. only got to play baseball at pinecrest my frosh year but coach capel and coach williams were great. yes, coach capel was the freshman baseball coach along with bball back then.

actually played with both those guys. 78 was my freshman year. god i still remember those runs down the dirt path to midland road and back. unfortunately my dad sent me to oneal so i missed out on the state championship the next year. i will say that oneal had a high school golf team that just dominated back then. eddie millington, robbie kramer (who owns wedges sandwich shop) kirk bell (peggy kirks son) kervin slade. i think they won back to back state titles by 20 plus strokes each year.

Former Ohio St QB and current NFL WR Terrelle Pryor. I grew up and played high school basketball in PA. My team was one of the 2 sacrificial lambs in an 8 team holiday tournament. We were a decent small school team playing teams from schools that were 3 to 4 times bigger than ours. That tournament had Jeannette High who at the time had Terrelle Pryor leading the way for basketball and football. I think at the time he was committed to play for Jamie Dixon at Pitt. I vividly remember watching him get a rebound over a 6'9 C (who went on to play in the Ivy League), gathering himself, taking one dribble back towards the middle of lane and going up for a one handed dunk over said C. He was by far the most physically gifted player in that gym and it was obvious. I think he ended up with 30-some and 10 or 12 rebounds in that game. I left the gym pretty impressed and slightly happy that my team didn't have to go up against him because he would have put up at least 40 and 20 on us.

There aren’t too many that have come from where I live that make it big time. Scooter Sherrill was a good high school player, but the best one I watched was Bobby Jackson, who went on to play college ball at Minnesota and onto a solid nba career where he was 6th man of the year once.
A good buddy of mine, a solid high school athlete, and decent point guard, told me about the first time he went head to head with Jackson. Our high school coach came up to him before the game and said “we gonna find out who the best guard in the county is tonight.”

At halftime, my buddy told his coach “It’s Jackson.”
