Why does UK get so many elite recruits while playing in the garbage SEC?

I have pondered that one before. It seems like the SEC gets most of the elite guys in football and that is largely because they wanna play in the best football conference in America. Why isn't it the same with basketball? Is it really all that fun coasting through your conference every year because it pretty much sucks? I don't get it.

History, incredible fans, awesome facilities, FF contender every year, high NBA prospects.

They ain't duke but it's not exactly D - III level ball they are offering.

The recruits will go wherever Calipari coaches at. Many of these guys only use college as a platform to go to the NBA so I highly doubt a conference's strength of schedule plays a major role when that is their intention.

I agree and if you've ever been to Kentucky, the players are the biggest names in the state. I made the mistake of making fun of Calipari to a waiter in a bar near Lexington once and immediately realized that I couldn't trust what he put in my food.

It may be a good brand, but the recruits go there to get to the NBA. The SEC may not be D3, however, it is severely lacking when compared to the ACC. I think that, and the fact that Caliparrot does not develope players is why Kentucky kids are sometimes less prepared for the NBA than kids from other programs. Not as bad a UNC though. Never as bad as UNC!

Gee, Swagger, according to UK fans it is the obvious choice if you wanna get to the NBA after one season. Can't do it anywhere else. And Cal is a huge developer of big men. Lolll.

Don't really agree with that statement. He has hits and misses just like any other coach.

To answer the OP, brand is more important than conference. Look at Umas and Memphis under Cal and Gonzaga currently.
