Why I want Grayson back next year

I for one would love to have Grayson Allen back at Duke next year. He has undoubtedly had a tough year, and I honestly do not expect him back. I hope he has a good ending to this year and puts himself higher on the draft boards. But if he comes back next year here is why I would love to have him.
  • He is one of only a handful of kids that has been both an Academic and Athletic All-American at Duke.
  • There is no one on the team that has a better work ethic than Grayson Allen.
  • He makes no excuses.
  • He takes the role given to him and gives it his all. He was projected to be our star and that limelight was removed from him due to Luke's stellar performance, he allowed his on court antics to remove his captainship, he was put into a more facilitator role from a scoring role, he has been playing injured, he has recently lost his starting role. All this and the kid plays as hard as he can every game and cheers the hardest from the bench. He is arguably the most important cog on this team despite all his setbacks - some of his own doing, but not all.
  • I want him to have the kind of year (WHOLE YEAR) I know he can have.

I agree with all you said. Grayson went out of his way to talk about the team's captains in his BDN interview yesterday with Marshall Plumlee.

I can see him come back and get his masters so that if pro basketball doesn't work out for him, he'll be ready for the business world, where he will absolutely flourish with his work ethic and intelligence.

Well I said in another thread that I didn't want Grayson to come back...but that was because of all the non-stop **** he's been taking, and will continue to take. On a selfish level I would love to see him play another year for Duke if I thought some of this crap would die down, but I honestly don't think it will. He's suffered enough. But only Grayson knows if he's got it in him to give all the haters a big FU and return. If he does come back, he's either the toughest sob alive, or a masochist. I'm a huge Grayson Allen fan, and whatever he decides I'll support him.

It would also be nice to have a senior on the roster next season.

But seriously, I just don't see a scenario where he returns. The plan all along has been for him to graduate in three years and he's going to do that. I think he's ready to move on to the next chapter....and I don't blame him. It sure would be nice if he could go out on top.

I would like for him to come back especially if Duke lands Duval!

That will give Grayson a NBA caliber pg to learn from and go against to help his pg skills.

I think it will be 50/50 if he stays are goes but at the end if Duke wins it all I don't see him back he has nothing left to prove on the college level especially if he shows out in the tourney

Is there a chance he goes undrafted? Some mock drafts don't have him being drafted, while others have him somewhere in the second round.

I think he will certainly get all of the information he needs to make an informed decision but I know he wants to go, and clearly can't blame him. I'd think he goes, but I'm just giddy about how he played in the acc tourney after the Clemson game. Hopefully the week off pays dividends and we get a flat out stud in the big dance.

Agreed, I still think he goes as well. I do think there may be a chance he decides to come back if he does not get good feedback at the draft combine though. Grayson seems like one of those guys that truly cares about the university and his legacy at the school. This season has basically been a nightmare for him on the individual level. If he's not projected as a first rounder which seems to be the case, who knows, maybe he changes his graduation plans and decides to give it one more go in an attempt to recover his draft stock and personal image.

I'm glad to know he has the option either way and if he goes, he busted his to graduate early and endured more crap than he should have, and if he does come back ill be thrilled.

I would dearly love to see Grayson come back for the reasons I underlined above. One of my all time favorites and would welcome him back with open arms.
Whatever he decides to do, he will stay one of my favorites, and I hope he is truly happy with his decision, that's all that really matters to me. God Bless this young man, and I hope he carries us to #6!
Go Duke!

I don't know if he will be able to handle another season with how he was treated by opposing fans and the media. Laettner and JJ thrived in those times, but Grayson had a very tough time until recently. I don't think he will have a high enough draft stock to want to leave early, so it's going to be an odd situation, let's see how it plays out.

I imagine the death of the girl he became friends with made everything all the worse, he may still be carrying that with him. If he did happen to come back, I'm sure he'd still face rabid fans and media, but could do it with a clearer mind.

Everybody called me crazy for saying Grayson was coming back before the season started . I hope he goes pro . Has a natty, degree, records ,drama ,injuries , ups downs ..I think it's time but who am I ...imo he has nothing really to prove or improve upon .or draft position.ithink that is what it is and will not change this or next year..especially if we cut down the nets ...well besides his character but I think he just is who he is a high emotional competitive guy and that's never going to change or he's going to struggle ..I think that some of what's been going on lately ..I think k knows he's a good kid but u can't keep him tied up that's not him..all in all I wish him the best and will root for him either way ..he can always come back for a masters.. I will say does he want his jersey retired??..Next years team has the potential to be even more challenging if some guys come back that I think will..Ks the goat though. Time will tell! Excited !

I wanted him back for one reason, whether its selfish or not.....I want #6, and I think our chances are better with him than without.

There's no question about that. A second chance to be the leader without the ridiculous personal expectations placed on him by not only others but by himself.
