NU has 2 open spots in this class assuming Gaines red shirts and stays, not 5, not 3 .... 2.

So given the reported offer list of 11, nine are going somewhere else.

Fair enough but the hope is to get impact players/difference makers which is where this team at this point is deficient. Hopefully someone steps up/present in the incoming class or emerges

I would feel better if I knew that only 9 of the 11 were going somewhere else.

At the risk of insulting some, this board is mainly interested in 1 of those 11 for now.

If we get Jeffress in the 2020 class, then 1 would be enough in 2021. ;)

Ideally, it would be nice to get PBJ and one of the guards from amongst Max Christie/Tamar Bates/Tyrese Hunter.

Enough? I doubt it.
Also, if PBJ, then I would think the #2 commit would be a goodie. Without PBJ, the chances of any other top 100 recruit would tank imo.

With the virus situation, I also think players wont be all set to go too far from home.

I think you would be surprised at the talent of all 11. I really posted this following up on the rumors that Goode is going to commit to the Illini to highlight the fact that there are only 2 schollies available right now and that might go to one. Bottomline, I hope the talent is on the roster for NU now. Effectively, NU is replacing two seniors with Gaines, Audige and Berry and as much as I really enjoyed watching Pat Spencer play and wanted more from Turner, these three should all be better than that combo. NU struggled at the wing and shooting and these guys appear to have the ability to be a big upgrade.

I think NU is an NIT team next year. Add Jeffress and they challenge for an 8 or 9 seed in the tourney. Very few teams have the size NU has. What is coming in spades is improved athleticism at the guard spot.

Bingo!
So many have missed the point you made, i.e., the covid -19 factor. It's more likely that a player decides to play closer to home. I wouldn't the the slightest surprised that our latest Illinois football verbal made his decision while cosidering covid-19.

So our better success may hinge on the commitment of Jeffress

Having watched video of Jeffress, I would bet that he would immediately and significantly change the trajectory of NU hoops.

Do I think he will come to NU? I'd be shocked. But hey he has not said no yet ;-)

How would you compare him to Vic Law?

The success will still depend upon PBJ. And as said, this virus will keep him and most kids thinking close to home. It just isnt going to happen with him going thousands of miles away. So we should have a better shot.

Don't tell me not to be upset!!!:mad:

But yeah, I hear you. It would be nice to see NU land one of its early offers. I like the composition of the program going forward and I think the arrow will start pointing up as soon as next year, which should help with recruiting. Might not be soon enough to sway the 2021 class, though.
