The WBB title game was at 3 pm on a Sunday, which is when you'd typically expect to see bowling or billiards. Just seems like an odd time slot for a title game.

The MBB title game is at 9:20 pm tonight. That's gonna be close to a midnight finish when folks have school and work the next day. We typically head up to bed about 9:30. It's almost like they're trying to discourage people from watching it.

Agree. You'd think both would start around 730 ET for that perfect prime time viewing window.

Separate but related it always blows my mind how early the Super Bowl kicks off. Don't understand why that's not prime time either

The start time for yesterday's game was perfect for me.

I'll wait until tomorrow AM to find out who wins tonight. Only way I'd make it through a 9:20 start is if we were playing.
I'd find a way to do that.

They used to have the Women's game at 8:00 on ESPN. It was at night when we beat UConn in 2022. They changed to the 3:00pm time last year I guess because ABC wanted the programming. ABC wanted to fill their day programming with that while keeping their night programming as scheduled. I preferred at night too, but I will take the dub at any time.

Neither one is ideal, but 3 pm on Sunday is certainly more agreeable for more folks than 9:20 on Monday. At that time slot, you're only going to get UConn and Purdue fans and the hardcore basketball fans.

Considering our depth compared to other teams, I like the shorter turnaround. For better or worse, is it good Carolina is how usually think about these decisions.

My guess is because one of the networks had the country music awards on last night, Since both programs would be expected to draw large female viewership, ABC probably did not want to compete head to head.

It's been on Monday night for the men for as long as I can remember, but 9:20 in the East on a work/school week night is brutal.

Didn't want to compete with American Idol, which is pretty popular with the female demographic. The men will command viewership in primetime.

Another thing that p!$$ed me off was that the ABC affiliate in Charlotte cut away from postgame coverage to proceed with their local newscast. There were still some great interviews to be conducted by the panel of women covering the game that many people didn't get to see.

That is crazy.

In spite of the crappy time, last year's title game still saw about 15 million viewers. Makes you wonder how many more would tune it if were a couple hours earlier.

I doubt I'll bother, seeing as how I'd only see 10-15 minutes of it. No point.

What did ABC have on last night? Was American Idol on? If so that would explain why they did not put that game on at night and did it at 3:00 PM.

But like other posters, have said, the time was perfect for me, I liked the time.

I honestly did not even realize American Idol was still a thing.

The women’s game was important and exciting and I’m not even going to watch one second of the boring men’s game! Boring!

I would have loved to have watched this game, but not enough to stay up for it. I should be snoozing by tip off - work starts early!

Without a doubt, the best thing about Mountain Time is the ability to actually watch primetime sports events on a work night.

West Coast fans would like to see the tipoff after they get off work.

Same in Charleston. I switched over to ESPN2 to catch the net cutting and postgame interviews.

This is great, but why pander to the west coast? Percent of US population by time zone:

Eastern: 46%
Central: 30%
Mountain: 7%
Pacific: 17%

So we're making it inconvenient for 46%, to capture the 17%. And with more people working remotely, or having flex schedules - I'll be a 5:20 start out there would still garner all the views.

And forget those Central and Mountain folks - they always have it made.

They are catering nationally. Then take into account the average bedtime in America is 11:30ish give or take 20 min. Don’t believe me google it, it won’t take long for you find out that’s the case. Truth is it was placed in that time slot because they have data that shows it’s the one that will get the most eyes. Those are simply the facts. No one can help that y’all want to waste 2 perfectly good hours of the day by going to bed at 9. That’s a you problem.

I actually liked the 3PM Sunday time slot for the NCAAW title game.

The same thing happened in Columbia. I just switched it to ESPN since I knew they were showing the game on both stations and watched the rest.

Certainly helped to boost the viewership relative to the men's game. A 9:20 pm start certainly cost millions of viewers.
Doubtful and you have no evidence of that. They likely have more evidence to the contrary considering when the game was played.

What cost them more views than anything was a blow out.

If you say so. I’ll trust the people looking at the data or then the most tv is watched. Over someone one who has no idea what they are talking about.
You want to put your trust in the media and NCAA? Have at it! haha

But, hey, it worked exactly like they wanted it to. They put the men's game on when people are getting ready for bed on a weekeday and the women's game on on a weekend afternoon when most people are off work and now they can crow that the women's' game had more viewers.

ha, the few times I ever watched, that's the only reason why. but i don't care about music.
It was funny at first but it really got old with me. We stopped watching for several years. Then several years ago when ABC picked it up, we gave it a shot again and it was 100 times better than it ever was on FOX. And a lot better singers now than ever before.

You are getting ready to go to bed. Only about 12% the country goes to bed at 9. 40% stay up till 11:30. Again you are in the minority. Most people don’t go to bed when you claim they do.

Guys, the National Championship Game for the Men has been 9:00 forever. It dates back to before Magic and Bird. My parents would make an exception for my bedtime just so I could watch the game. I am a hardcore basketball guy so I am used to it. Only watched parts of the second half of this game though. Just couldn't get into it. The quality of College Basketball has dipped for so many reasons that it just doesn't peak my interest the same. Watched more of the Women's tournament than I ever have. Even watched women's games that did not include our team. That has never happened. I don't know what College Basketball can do on the Men's side, but some of the hardcore fans are losing interest. Talk to a lot of people when it comes to basketball. It's not just me.
