Just wondering if anyone has any insight here? The kid played his *** off for us and was a key contributor? Just saw that he decided on transferring to UGA and I’m really curious as to what went into that decision? Any insight is appreciated.

I loved McCarthy and will always remember his heads up baserunning and slide that sealed our program’s first ever trip to the CWS.
Didn’t we recently lose an assistant coach to UGA as well? Perhaps Nolan and that coach had a strong relationship. Sometimes things happen… I wouldn’t necessarily fault Mingione on this one. I’m sure he would have preferred McCarthy stayed. We seem to have a solid portal class coming in though. Definitely need to keep momentum!

At least in Nolan's case he spent 4 years in LEX and played 3 (redshirted his 1st year). He earned a business degree and is forever a CAT alum. I have no problem with a guy like that taking on a change of scenery and possibly shopping for the best deal for his final year of eligibility. McCarthy gave everything he had to UK and I wish him well at UGA, except when he faces us.
Last year we benefited greatly from 1 year rentals and will no doubt continue to play that game. Thus, we cannot be too upset when we lose one in the same fashion.
He graduated, all his best friends are now gone and the two coaches who he worked with the closest in his development are there. He wanted to just see something new for his final year. Has nothing to do with Kentucky so much as how the new transfer world works.
