I don’t know how he thinks he can change things. No game-changing recruits are coming in. Either he brings back most of the losers we currently have on the team or he replaces the whole team and has to start back on square 1. Neither seem like a recipe for success.

Oh, and I bet a million dollars he doesn’t hire a GM or make any staff changes in the offseason.
you don't lead the life Mark Pope has lead and believe walking away is the answer after 1 bad year

I hope he does too. I hope someone pulls up my posts in two months, after a final four, and says look how stupid these Kentucky fans were. I’ve lost all hope that’s in the cards

I haven't lost all hope yet, but we're getting damn close. But I would love to rub it in to some. But if that happens, I'm sure they will turn true blue again 😂

Well, I’m easy to win back. You have an elite defensive roster —- start using it and stop overthinking. Play common sense basketball and stop embarrassing us. Finish the year as an excellent defensive team and an okay offensive one. At least run stuff well enough that we can tell what you are doing, Pope.

Hell no. He knows his next job is at Utah Community College.

When you walk away with $20,000,000+, why would give a s.hit. Pope is a rich man, no matter what he does now.
Any body but Pope, I would say don't really give s.hit, getting that kind of money, but it's hurting him worse then any fan on here.
Now think about that, $20,000,000+, and feeling like s.hit, that's just not right is it 🥲

Better than $75,000 breaking your back in a factory and feeling like ****. The man has it made

Pope thinks he’s the smartest person in the room and probably is most of the time. I‘m starting to see some arrogance from him. Like the way he answers Tom Leach.

I think Pope is too arrogant to walk away! Never thought I would say that, but when you’re under pressure your true colors show. His are starting to show!
I wish he was the smartest coach in the room but he's been outcoached many times and is stubborn to a fault.

The way I see it he’s got three choices.

1.) Figure this **** out and win some games.
2.) Walk away and keep his good will with the fan base.
3.) Cash checks until he is run out of town and has destroyed every drop of good will he had with the fans while destroying the program he claims to love.

He himself knows he can’t go 9-16 and have the fans support after hand picking the current team. Even Pitinos team the first year of probation was better than that with mostly Kentucky boys. If he truly understands the assignment, he should walk away if he were to go 9-16 or worse.

Smartest Person not coach. And only book smart at that. Rhodes scholar.
He probably has next to zero common sense.

Intelligence comes in many forms. Stupidity does too. I have an uncle that can build various types of machines by assembling parts and taught himself. He can barely read, learned everything himself through guess and check. Average person may not see it —- but I see someone like that and know he’s a hundred times more intelligent than a lot of people who spend all their time learning something someone else studied or experimented with. No second-hand information — he’s self-taught —- I’d never consider myself 10% as intelligent as my uncle. Conversely, Pope may be intelligent in many ways —- it doesn’t prevent him from being just as stupid as me in others.

My point exactly, I was an underground coalminer for 35 years 😂
Hard to feel real sorry for Pope.
I worked graveyard or midnight as you Kentuckians called it for 27 years, so I could coach basketball.
Hope you upgraded your keyboard.

I have a sneaking suspicion he's going to break his hand one of these games, and is going to shock a player or two when he lays into their *** and tells them to fix their **** or move along. He obviously loves UK, and I have faith.

At least you seem sincere and pulling for him. There are some here just BEGGING for the guy to leave, or saying they hope he gets things turned around because, you know, they're gonna have to give him a spanking or something. The guy should be getting full support from UK fans, and he's getting nowhere near that.
Thanks. I was not over excited when he was hired because he was not proven commodity with results to justify the hiring. But since he got the job, my job as a as Kentucky fun is to cheer for him and the team succes.

I have been saying when he gave that introduction speech that he added too much pressure on himself by bringing the title talk. He double it down this year. So the expectations are to the roof.

when he got hired I said that the first 3 years would be construction of a system and Pope learning And the title talk should be made after year 3…..

but in a sense Pope made his own bed …

I still hope that he will win number 9 and multiple titles for Kentucky , I just don t see it happing this year or next.

Some of you folks are living in the past. Money trumps love of program for everyone nowadays. Nobody with a fat contract is gonna just walk away from all that dough.

Hell, getting fired with a bloated buyout has become the new coaching dream. It’s like winning the lottery.

Would you throw away a winning lottery ticket?

Cal could at least point to his incoming recruits when he was going 9-16
He was the master marketer for a program. Always in the spot light and creating buzz. Seemed like after every rough patch we'd have a commitment announcement to ease our pain. Now we only have misery.

Pope isn’t the good Christian man you think he is if he decides to run it back knowing that he and his family will be utterly miserable next year. He’ll be a lame duck. Think he gets $20 million to work with in the transfer portal this year? Heck no! Think he gets any big time recruits to come in next year? Currently we’re at a big fat 0. He either brings back the losers we have currently on the team or he starts over due to all the losers leaving.

None of these possibilities lead to anything but the most miserable year in Kentucky basketball in our lifetime. No hope, no possibilities of a better tomorrow, none! And if Pope decides he’s willing to sacrifice all that for more money, then I don’t care if he’s a former player. I’ll never treat him as one of our own again.
I don’t see what his briefs in Christ have to do with quitting but ok.

I don’t think he will quit before year 3. He is a competitor and I don’t know of any coach that would quit after 1 bad year unless they know deep down it can’t be fixed and he has some sort of stress and anxiety overload daily. But I think will believe he can learn from this and fix it for at least the following year.
