Seems like there's always some a-hole who holds out. But, I don't see how anyone serious about baseball would leave him off the ballot. Just became #2 all-time on the RBI list to go with 700+ HRs, 3300+ hits, 14th all-time in doubles, etc. Whoever votes against him should immediately lose their HOF vote.

Some loser at the Wilkes Barre Gazette or wherever will vote no to get his 15 minutes of Fame then explain he only has voted Hank Aaron and Willie Mays as first ballot and that’s his standard. Then the guy will be forgotten forever and no one will care whether it was unanimous.

There will be a writer or 3 who will lump him into the Steroids Era, but he should go unanimous. Mariano Rivera is the greatest relief pitcher ever, but it's an absolute joke that a relief pitcher was the first one to get all the votes.

In an alternate universe, I sure would've liked to have known what his career stats would've been if he stayed in St. Louis his whole career.

Had he not experienced nagging injuries off and on the last 5 yrs, he would have bested Aaron in HR and RBI. He should be a 100% yes vote, but we all know how that works.

The Rivera comment shows that part of it is how "likeable" the player is. These are "writers" who may let feelings cloud their judgement. Suppose Bonds had did what he did without roids, he was still enough of a prick that he would have not gotten 100% of the votes. Rivera was likeable (& I hated the Yanks). I think Pujols is somewhere in-between in that regard, so yeah, he will be 3-5 votes shy of unanimous.

Now I am of the opinion when it comes to Bonds/McGwire/Clemons/Sosa/Palmeiro/ARod, "ok what did you do before the roids". I think Bonds may have done enough, Clemens too, before when it appears they started taking them to have gotten in. Bonds before the 99 season (when it appears he may have started juicing) already had 410+ HR, 450+ SB, 3 MVPs, 7 times top 5 in MVP, 7 Gold Gloves.
Sorry, different topic.

If he's not then who will ever be? Right now Judge and Ohtani would be the only ones I see even remotely possible but want to see some World Series titles IMO.
