I attended the MN IA game yesterday.. nominally rooting for IA given my hosts. Having never been there before it was a lot of fun. Throwback but up to date, quirky features, enthusiastic fans, good time out and half time entertainment. If I lived in the Twin Cities I might get season tix as a great way to spend a bone chilling afternoon. Don't tell, but was not sad the Hawkeyes lost.

The Barn is a great place to see a game. That place rocked in the 1970’s. kevin McHale was a stickman freshman year and then morphed into a beast.

Too bad the Hockey team is a shell of its former self. There are 3 Minnesota college teams in the top 10 in the Country...None of them the Gophers. When St Cloud, Duluth and Minn State are all ranked and the Gophers are nowhere to be found it is a sad place to be

Did the newly painted floor look as glaring in person as it does on TV?

The elevated floor always seems like a safety hazard.
Seem to remember that NU had a raised floor as well in the 60s? 70's?. Remember seeing Marshal HS star Jim Pitts injuring his ankle coming off the court after warm-ups for his first college game.

Yeah, the combination of the elevated floor (which, like another poster said, always has seemed like a safety risk to me) and that white painting just made it look sort of ghostly with the players on a different 'plane' of sorts than the rest of the stadium. Strange look in what otherwise seems like a good arena and atmosphere.

Yes until the 1983 renovation McGaw Hall had a dirt floor and running track with an elevated wood floor. As I recall the resulting and constantly reaccumulating dust layer required frequent floor sweeping during time outs and added a bit of drama.
