Be careful what you wish for. More people means longer lines for restrooms, concessions and getting in the stadium. Adding a few thousand fans means adding a few thousand cars that need parking too. Bigger stadiums look worse when they are less than full too.Exciting stuff. It’s gonna look badass in the corners. I’m still holding out hope for more seating above the student section to enclose the stadium and get the capacity around 85k or so.
When it comes to stadiums, bigger crowds are always better than small ones and the only way to host a big crowd is to have a stadium that will hold them.Be careful what you wish for. I thought it was down sizing to less total fans? Regardless, if you are really a fan of the Gamecocks the more people there the better! When it comes to stadiums, bigger crowds are always better than small ones and the only way to host a big crowd is to have a stadium that will hold them.
I believe you are correct. That’s what I’ve heard, too. But maybe @Sleepyhead will get his wish and they’ll figure out a way to add more seats.I thought it was down sizing to less total fans? Regardless, if you are really a fan of the Gamecocks the more people there the better!
Would you rather go to a game with 25,000 or 85,000? I know which I would prefer. The easiest thing is to stay home and watch tv.I believe you are correct. That’s what I’ve heard, too. But maybe @Sleepyhead will get his wish and they’ll figure out a way to add more seats.
That is what I have heard as well. These renovations will reduce capacity, not enlarge it. And that is the trend around college football.I think with them redoing the club seats to add suites on the west side its going to knock capacity down again to like 75k or so.
True, but when an 85,000 seat stadium has 65,000 people in it, it looks really empty compared to a 75,000 seat stadium with 65,000 in it.When it comes to stadiums, bigger crowds are always better than small ones and the only way to host a big crowd is to have a stadium that will hold them.
To the extent that our fans arrive late and leave early, we are hardly unusual in that regard. But I'd rather have a stadium that reached 85,000 capacity three times a year than none at all.True, but when an 85,000 seat stadium has 65,000 people in it, it looks really empty compared to a 75,000 seat stadium with 65,000 in it.
The whole "Williams Brice is always full, no matter what the team does" thing is a myth. I've seen a lot of games where there are large sections of empty seats at kickoff and even more games where the place is basically empty early in the third quarter. A lot of gamecock fans head back to the tailgate at halftime.
I also think the full effect of how NIL and the portal are affecting the enthusiasm of fans is just beginning to be felt. The cost of attending a game has skyrocketed in the past 5 years and the fans passion has been waning during the same time period. Sure, the Clemson, Bama, UGA type games will be full, but the other more run of the mill games are going to struggle to fill up the stadium.
As long as we are talking about billion-dollar upgrades, let's throw some of that money at an OL.They should have just put a retractable roof over WB. No other college stadium has one and we could close it for day games so we could see the light show.
Is that on the Catholic side of the stadium?luxury suites and confession area
That is too funny! Is that on the Catholic side of the stadium?![]()
The games are still sell outs though. The scalpers buy up the tickets and then end up eating them, which produces a stadium with empty seats.True, but when an 85,000 seat stadium has 65,000 people in it, it looks really empty compared to a 75,000 seat stadium with 65,000 in it.

It was. I was there. Won it by a bucket right at the end.The deadlines remind me of contruction of Carolina Coliseum in 1968. 2 weeks before the first game they were still bolting seats to the floor and running cables. They just barely had enough done to host that first game. I believe the opponent was Auburn.
It would also move some fans out of the camera shot at field level, which would be a good thing. It is really low class looking when an opponent scores and the camera catches all the Carolina fans in the back of the end zone flipping off the opposing player. My unpopular opinion…they need to remove the bottom three rows in the end zones to create an actual running-room buffer between the end-line and the rail. We are going to impale one of our receivers on that rail.
For all of us who were at the 1984 Florida State game or the 87 Clemson game, with attendance of 74,000, the place was as loud for those two games, as for any other game. The games are still sell outs though. The scalpers buy up the tickets and then end up eating them, which produces a stadium with empty seats.
