I think the team that loses out most is Iowa. They were solidly #2, but after putting $31 million into their nuclear silo and no forecast in sight for the removal of the chihuahua twins, I don’t see a lot of upward mobility for them.
The winners would have to be wrestling as a whole. I think everyone likes parity, and an underdog story, and this provides a glimpse of both.
Penn state is both a winner and a loser in this. Cael would not agree but what made LA lakers so exciting was they had the Celtics. Cael is a cold blooded killer and there is no way he likes this. It creates cracks in his regime.

I agree 100% with your first two paragraphs. With the 3rd paragraph, I think Cael accepts the fact that he was going to lose the first generation guys shortly. I've been predicting DT going somewhere six months ago. It was inevitable. Others will start leaving as well. Will it create cracks? Maybe.

Not trying to dig up old beefs, buuuttt, didn’t allow an injured Nick suriano to enter the NCAA tournament, knowing he wasn’t going to wrestle, only give Daton a worse seed. Bit of a d!ck move. Cael is a cold blooded killer who cares only about winning. I heard an interview with Cody Sanderson a few years back and you could tell he had issues with always being in the shadow of Cael and the jist I got from it was Cael gets what Cael wants, no matter what.

It was actually Nick Pich, not Daton.

I honestly feel that if David Taylor made the Olympic team, he would have been coaching Iowa in a few years. I could be totally off-base with that but I want to believe it anyway. What can I say, I love seeing the Hawkeyes lose in every way possible...
I have had nightmares about that for a year or so.

You are NOT off base. I hope we (OSU) can make DT fall in love.

Iowa needs to replace the Brands with an OL coach that never Wrestled, which is what most schools in the country do.

I look at it not as PSU becoming cracked but other programs fixing their own cracks.

Being ahead of Iowa isn’t something I’m personally happy about. All that money on the wrestling room yet they have an awful recruiting class. Outside of Angelo they have nothing, and they only got him cause his two older brothers are not great guys so they got kicked outta ok st. Now maybe they get Parco. Alirez would be best available but I doubt he goes there.

Don't necessarily agree. I think he loves to compete and the better the competition, the more satisfying the wins. Better for all wrestling that OSU is gaining on other top programs. Should be interesting to see Top 5 next year. PSU fan and excited for OSU as I follow you guys also!!!

They would like to back the truck up to Spencer's door, but he will be wrestling for another four years it seems. The Brands' contracts end conveniently in spring 2029 right after the 2028 games. In addition, they would have to pay a hefty sum to Brands if they let him go now. They are stuck whether they like him or not.

I think we think as normal humans but some of these top competitors don’t think like we do. To name a few: Burroughs, Dake, Sanderson. These guys don’t want a fair battle. They want to win. Now, I could be wrong about Cael, he says so little about how he thinks, but these apex types tend to be very selfish. You don’t get a John smith every day that sends out instructional videos on how to hit his best move and how to counter it. But, that’s what makes these guys great and what keeps them on top.

Speaking of which, I read a member post on the Iowa board a few minutes ago that the best OSU can do is 3rd. They have 3 champs, 9 AAs, and 143 points coming next March. All they need is Parco, Alirez, and the race car to pull it off, as well as everyone else hitting top form.

So just take a punt year. I read it on the internet.
